The first law is to protect humans at all costs, correct? (Been a while since I played.)
If that's true, and you're assuming that other laws are secondary to earlier laws, then the logical solution is to warn people, then lock everyone up with electrified doors, at the first sign of a traitor/issue. Then manually allow security personnel access to rooms with people who try to escape from their rooms.

That way, nobody will be injured, except the suicidal ones who touch the doors. Since everyone's jobs are usually contained within a single room, it wouldn't even interfere that much with the regular workings of the station.

Although technically true, you also have to take into account the lower station productivity and the idea that they will think you are a malf AI. Which will surely lead to more deaths in the long run. You have to balance the theoretical and the practical.

Well, that makes sense given the back-story, I suppose...I wonder how important laws after the first should be interpreted as...after all, if, as people were saying before, all laws after 1 (or 0) are secondary, then the AI could go release plasma into rooms with anyone acting suspicious.

In that case you would render the ship unusable. Which would be the same as destroying it from some perspectives. Also you have to try to follow your laws. So if you could detain the suspicious person that would be best, and if you can not detain them, then disrupting their ability to destroy the ship by, say, calling in sec, it would be just as good.

I have most of the controls and actions you can proform down, but how do you cuff someone to a bed/chair?

Click on them, then without letting go of the click (such that it would shake or punch them or what have you) you drag your mouse over the desired object of cuffing and let go.

Also, does anyone know what the exact chain of command is? I got most of it figured out, but there's still grey areas (does the Roboticist report to the RD, Chief Engineer, or Head Surgeon? Does he have the authentication to reprogram the AI?)

Roboticist, I think, is under the duel lead of the RD and the HS. Also the only people allowed to go into the AIs room at all is the captain, so no. Even then the AI needs to think if it will break law one (likely otherwise why would he do it?) or law two if the captain wants to reprogram it.

I'm the damn robotics specialist on this station, what do you mean I'm not allowed in your upload? (That's the argument I use most of the time anyways)

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

I imagine the roboticists being the repair guys in case the AI breaks, which isn't coded yet. Giving someone like that the power to upload laws is dangerous and only left to the tippity top of the chain of command (Captain and HoP)

If the captian privatly asks the AI to allow him into the AI foyer, should the AI say something? It doesn't violate any laws and is metagaming to think that most of the time something bad happens when the laws are changed, but it's still someone going into the AI foyer.

As captain, I use paper to tell it not to tell anyone if I want it to be secret.

That's be up to you, I'd think. Either way there aren't any laws being violated...although I would suppose Nanotrensen would program the AI to think the Foyer as being VERY valuable and a critical area, even off-limit to the Captain except in very rare cases.

You drag the cuffed person to the item you want to cuff them to while they are on it, I think. You can do it when they are uncuffed, but then they can just unbuckle themselves.

Chain of command is:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
(So Captain > HoP > HoS > HoR/CE for command if people die. Each Head commands their area of the ship, most of which is pretty obvious. A well designed station is divided into the different Head's areas.)

That and once again, I am convinced that the player is meant to be more then just a "replacement for a more complicated system". I am sure AI's are allowed to have personality, reasoning, and even detriments and tics.

You know what I'd love to hear the AI say in response to that? "But I hardly even know you" or "Isn't that a bit personal?"

I just saw how shitty the community really is. I played my first couple of rounds of AI ever, and I get berated for being a 'bitch'. I'm doing the best I can to follow my laws and run the station, but people don't understand that to get good at something, you need to practice. Eventually, the captain gave me a law to permenantly shut down, which I did to the greatest extent of my ability, and I still got insulted.

If a new player does something wrong (Which I wasn't except for not knowing where the SMES units were), don't yell at them to stop being a 'bitch'. Tell them what they're doing wrong and try to be understanding.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hum. I always thought of it more along the lines of

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With the same line of succession. Especially on baystation where the HoS also can use the ID computer (I think, I don't play there a lot but that is what the wiki says) which makes the HoP a lot less special. At any rate, when I play as the HoS I never order the other heads or directors anyway and play as if they are on the same level as me. I will often defer to the HoP, but not professionally, just because generally I should be watching Sec any and not anything else anyway.

I just saw how shitty the community really is.

The community can be pretty bad (what station are you on?) but to be fair, if you are new enough to not know what a SMES is you should not be the AI anyway when anyone else is on. Still calling you a bitch was out of line, and getting shut down was also bad and you (depending on the station) should have adminhelped to ask if you could ignore that order since it is the same as killing you.

I did extensive reading on all the jobs, I know what an SMES is, and I turned all the ones I could find to 70k input 30k output like the wiki said. I was playing on a gibbed server(, I only know the layout of the doughnut station and the other servers are usually desolate and boring). Thanks for the advice, I'll adminhelp it next time.

You should've told the Captain to go shove it, that law would conflict with your third (right?) which means you could render it null.

Law 2 takes priority over law 3.

Yes, but adding a shutdown law would put the shutdown command in 4th.

The law stated that it overrided all other laws and was to be enacted immideatly

Law 2 takes priority over law 3.
Indeed, but the 3 takes priority over 4. I'll assume the Captain never directly ordered him to shutdown, so he wouldn't be able to since his protect existence law was a priority over his suicide law.
The law stated that it overrided all other laws and was to be enacted immideatly
Nevermind then.
