Except that BS12 is prodded full of cybering, metafriending and general asshattery.
There was a guy who was banned for killing an admin playing as syndicate.

Theres alot of metagrugding. And metarelationships.

This may seem a little OTT with negativity, and it sounds more like someone heard this second-hand rather than experienced it first-hand, but here's a point-of-view from someone who used to play on there:
Cybering is actually a bannable offense on there (But this was only ruled recently), meta-friendships are very present though (There have been quite a few in-game marriage events between characters (Personally I think they're stupid, but some players seem to genuinely enjoy them)). General asshattery is a little vague, though, I can't think of any examples of it.
Admins banning for OOC reasons is something that also occurs, as long as the victim lodges an official complaint it's usually dealt with (The guilty admin is rarely given anything more than a verbal warning, though), but people are often too afraid to.
Can't comment on the metagrudging, never seen it, but it could be there.

BS12 has some good points, it's the most RP-heavy server that I know of (This could be good or bad, depending on your opinion), the community (in general) is very friendly and helpful, their staff (Moderators, not admins) are active and always available, and the playerbase is quite large.
It also has some bad points, some of the staff can come off as confrontational, the rules you're expected to follow are very different and fairly stricter than what you'd normally encounter in other SS13 servers, and the unique coding touches added by BS12 devs tend to cause more problems than they solve.

Ninja Edit:
So, its just like how you have to learn who is generally the craziest in goon so you know what to avoid if possible then?

Yeah it is all sorts of crazy.

SS13 is like an insane asylum where even the staff is crazy.

This, however, is very true.

A lot of the stations (not talking about bay12 here) are manned by the typical crew, one has come to expect:

A headmin who quickly lost intrest and only comes on to abuse a bit, a circlejerk off people, a little suckup army of admins/sub-rank-admins and of course "the girl" (without fault, they seem to always show up - but only one per horde) - which enjoys the privilages of young males attention.

I work at a place with basically unlimited hardware. I can get perma banned, throw in a new pain of rams and be back in, dynamic ip takes care of the rest, right? But toying/teasing/trolling bad servers has become boring very quickly, so I shall use this power for good. Withhin the next few weeks another pointless, tg-revision server will pop up (eu based). Maybe a bit more GMing/Storytelling...

I really tire of talking about how "strict" BS12 is, you can do pretty much anything as long as its rped well, once I was a paranoid captain and ended up flooding the ICU (back on the Luna I think) with plasma because I didnt know which one of the people in there was a traitor and who was innocent.

EDIT: this isnt a response to you Thtb, just saying this.

SS13 is strict and extremely loose at the same time.

It is part of the insanity.

You can get away with everything and the kitchen sink one second, and then get in trouble for breathing the next.

You mean so long as the local admin thinks you RPed well. And you didn't piss him off. And he is not a asshole.

BS12 is sometimes pretty terrible, and the idea that serious rp is the only real rp doesn't help. The Spacestation 13 setting is one of the least serious settings around, with wizards and aliens and blobs and cults, etc. and general ridiculous undertones. To roleplay in such a setting is to act like someone actually would when faced with all these issues, especially with the knowledge of mortality being extremely clear. Roleplaying isn't having a character back story and doing your job diligently for hours, it's hating people who annoy you and generally wanting to keep living.

I think that I had a good shot, as a lawyer, of causing a scandal in security and save my client too. sadly there was a vote to evacuate just before the trial started, but next time... fear my righteousness, security!

i don't really understand the issue people have with Goonstation. It lacks a bit in RP, but sometime's thats for the better. RP is still there, it just isn't the main issue.

For example, if you spawn as engineer ten minutes into a very tame round, noone will get mad when you hack into EVA, take a blueprint machine, and go build a bar in space.

I have never had to use the AMINhelp function, and I am almost certain that I have never been killed for absolutely no reason on that server. The worst it's gotten was when I was flashed and farted on by the janitor, whom I preceded to bludgeon with a crowbar. I almost got brigged, but when the janitor then flashed the security guard and ran off, I was forgiven.

I guess the other problem people have with GStation is it's legendary shitcurity. What most people don't realize is that security is heavily, heavily vetted by admins, and is actually a very unfavorable job for dicking around.

All in all, on goonstation, RP may not be front and center, but it still is there.

This; everyone on BS12 seems to believe Goonstation to be some lawless hellhole with no rules.

last time I played there, it was.
However, last time I played on goonstation, there were only 2 or 3 SS13 servers, total, and B12 still used the old goonstation map, with the plasma powered generator.
So, I guess many things could have changed. greatly.

SS13 is picky by default, It uses Byond after all.
Goon doesn't add much to the pickiness. But Goon also has some of the best/worst rounds.
tg adds more, but 'more' is defined more by who is running the code than anything.
BS12 adds the most pickiness, but it also has some of the best/worst rounds for the opposite reason goon does, most of the time.

BS12 isn't as bad as it once was, I'll admit. Alot of antag rules have been lifted, giving them the freedom to do what they want (within reason). If you're planning to do something big, like flood medbay with plasma, ask an admin first. Depending on who responds, the amount of caffeine in their blood, and the alignment of the stars, you might get permission to do it.

However, if you want to flood the bridge with plasma to kill the captain and the HoS happens to walk in on it, you'll be fine (unless the HoS happens to be an admin, a friend of an admin, or the admins are feeling particularly crappy that day).

In my experience, playing antag for the entertainment of the crew doesn't usually work. Threatening to explode the station with the nuke while standing right next to it doesn't net anywhere near as much attention as Douchecanoe Mcgriffin smacking the bartender with a fork and running off.
