Got some decent play time in, but as with most early fortresses not much of great interest is really going on. Guess it's up to me to make it so :P

Also: Several migrant waves, including one that more than doubled my population, plenty of open requests.
Images will be forthcoming, I am taking screenies...

10 Hematite 1051
We finally have a trade depot up! So if some bloody merchants EVENTUALLY decide to show up, we have somewhere to fob off our junk.

30 Hematite
Yes! My office is finally built! Peasant is complaining that if he gets a 10-foot cubicle I should too, but I quickly shut him up. I'M THE BOSS DAMNIT!

We also got a migrant wave, 3 fools crazy enough to come here voluntarily.
I especially think the woodcrafter and woodcutter are insane. Where do they expect to find wood IN A BLOODY DESERT?!

Anyway, for the records:

Lorbam Esmulonul - Woodcutter
Thikut Dallithilral - Woodcrafter
Meng Libasherash - Metalsmith (too bad he forgot to bring an anvil. Or fuel. )

Well, I'm sure we'll find a use for them.

21 Malachite (Trying a differnt style for a bit)

"Blade?"
"Yes, Peasant?" said Blade, trying to walk faster so that she wouldn't have to deal with whatever it was.
"People are beginning to complain about food stocks - they're running very low."
"Well, what am I supposed to do about it? I can't fish."
"But..."
"Tell you what." said Blade, stopping as an idea popped in to her head, "People have nothing to do, so they complain. Give them something to do and they'll be more positive."
Peasant stopped - it sort of made sense...
"As such, I'm commisioning a pair of statues for my office. Make sure that they're nice, nice and menacing. With Blue Garnets."
"Blue Garnet?"
"Yes, we dug some up a little while back, didn't we."
"But... yes ma'am. What about Ast though? he's got nothing to do with statues or jewelry."
A glint entered Blade's eyes.
"Send him to me, I'll... deal with him."

Blade walked on, satisfied. Behind her, Peasant stomped down the passage, muttering about cubicles.

16 Galena
"Damnit, first we're out of booze and now the wel''s dry?" Blade threw up her hands in exasperation.
"Muffin, wasn't it you that dug this well?"
Muffin shrugged, "Doesn't mean it's my fault."
"Well it does mean YOU'RE the one dealing with it. I expect to get some water within the month!"

Muffin repeated her shrug, clicking her tongue "Whatever you say, boss."
"I'm going to go admire those new statues." Blade stepped out the doorway, not noticing the rude sign Flame Muffin made with her beard.

26 Limestone
Why does nobody TELL me anything? Flame Muffin got bloody sick as a dog and nobody bothers to bring her water? AND WHY'S THE WELL STILL DRY?

Arrrg!

3 Sandstone
More bloody migrants! Our food problem is bad enough without MORE mouths to feed! Well they can bloody well make themselves useful. Maybe they can gather all those shrubs. Hopefully they're edible.

There's also another metalsmith. He says he can work steel like a living thing, but since we don't have any let's see if he can work living things like steel. He's our new chief medical officer.

The other two... I dunno. They can do something useful. I'll think of something.

Aban Alled - Thresher (Plant Gatherer)
Avuz Usansazir - Metalsmith (Chief medic)
Meng Sakzuletur - Soapmaker
Goden Ilraldakas - Clothier
Mosus Asteshidos - Thresher (Plant gatherer)

19 Timber

A caravan! At last! I've told everyone to drag Silo's junk out to the depot, hopefully we can get some food for it.
Mebzuth Siknugcog is also here as our outpost liaison. Maybe I can wrangle something useful from him. If I lock the office Ast is going to be wondering what we're up to in there... hehehe... That boy's so much fun to tease.

(Bit more stuff left but I'll leave it for next post. Think I prefer the dialogue style, even if it is harder to write for. )

I'm liking it so far - if we're running low on food, why don't you just hunt camels or whatever?

Blade might end up having to watch his step... in his office. never know where a trigger-plate might be.

Right, first off, current list of dorfs, including the latest horrifyingly huge immigration wave. If you want a dwarf, let me know, we got plenty :P

No particular order:

Now that I look the male/female ratio is like 2.5:1... Well that's not so bad. Yet. Let's see if the pattern holds :P

19 Timber (cont.)
"Well, Blade." said Mebzuth, "The Baron is... glad to see you doing so well for yourself."
Blade ground her teeth, but kept control.
"If you'd bring booze next time we'd be doing better." she snapped, then added as an afterthought, "And food."
"I'll see what can be arranged... I'm sure we can arrange more food for less than twice market prices."
Blade tapped her foot and contemplated closed rooms and floodgates.

10 Slate
"Well..." said blade, conversationally, "It's a very nice statue... very nice image of a pick, with those wood opals."
Flame beamed in pride, oblivious to the tone. "I think of that pick as my signature."
"And a very nice signature indeed... although I have to ask, why did you choose a scorpion?"
"Not just ANY scorpion!" Flame was aghast, "It's Trailembraced, the giant desert surely you've heard of her?!"
"Eeummm... can't say I have..." Blade started backing up as Flame began foaming at the mouth. Why did masons think they were artists?

She decided she'd go and pick out a log from the new wood supplies... she'd need a nice bed for her room once it was done.

1st Granite 1052
"HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!"
The shouts rang through the hall as dwarves banged their mugs together in celebration. Groovedbells (or Gooballs as it was known in the records...) had survived a full year!

"Not that I expected anything else with MY brilliant leadership!" Blade exclaimed this, slightly more drunk than normal, to an even more inebriated Omnigrue. Omnigrue, who had heard that approximately ten times in the past five minutes, heaved himself out of his chair and out of the dining hall, muttering something about "finding one of those camels."

"Uhm, Blade..." said peasant diffidently ,sidling up to her erstwhile boss, "Isn't it getting a bit late? We all have duties tomorrow..." Blade glared drunkenly at Peasant and then proceeded to solemnly dump the contents of her mug over the administrator's head.

"Party pooper." she muttered, grabbing a protesting Ast and dragging him out the hall after her.

10 Slate
Me and Ast got married today. There wasn't a party like we planned because none of the guests I invited showed up. I'll show them for embarassing me like that. I'LL SHOW THEM. I'm DOUBLING the size of my quarters and taking 4 beds out the dormitory, they can all fight over the remaining 8.

19 Slate
"Blade...[/b] a diffident knock on the door was followed by the nervous face of Peasant, "We seem to have a... minor problem."
Blade raised an eyebrow - Peasant looked even more anxious than usual.
"How minor?"
"Uhm... not so minor, really..."
Blade heaved a sigh and got up to follow her aide.

"WHAT IN ALL THE HELLS IS THIS?!" Blade screamed, "Just out of nowhere twenty more dwarves pop up and decide to live here?!"
Peasant nodded. Blade rubbed her temples.
"The number of idiots in this world is even more than I thought. Get some more tables and chairs made, and expand the dining room and dormitory. They'll have to wait until a caravan arrives for more beds."

Blade stomped off, pausing to scream over her shoulder.
"AND LOCK UP THE BOOZE BEFORE THEY FINISH IT ALL!"

She then returned to her office, perusing the list of new community members.

Yeah I was kinda terrified that I might've hit an infinite migration bug or something. Probably just the massive amount of rock crafts/toys/instruments I'm churning out boosting my wealth.

HAH! AST AND BLADE! now that is something i didn't expect! I am enjoying your storytelling here.

Thanks :) And I wasn't expecting it either, was looking through everyone's thoughts and saw that, was like "Wait what?"

Also Avuz (the metalsmith/chief medical dwarf) seems to be developing a lot of people who dislike him, should probably take advantage of that.

Feel free to put in posts with your own points of view, when I DO eventually get my imagehosts to work I'll put up all the screenshots (if I can remember) the entry they reference to.

Will try and get a post up tomorrow, I'm playing during my slacking sapre time at work so I tend to get the actual game in spurts and bursts (being the IT tech means that it goes from deathly quiet to terrifyingly frantic in the space of three minutes at times).

Yay! New entry at last :P

22 Slate 1052
Well, I figure those sad sacks have squatted around the place long enough. We need a militia started up anyway - the gobbos aren't gonna ignore us forever.

I picked Meng Libasherush as the militia commander, since she seems to be the most competent fighter in the lot. The other 9 members were selected by throwing rocks.

Whoever was still conscious after I hit em in the head with one went into the army.

25 Slate
"Blade?" Peasant poked her head through the doorway, "Silo can't get in to work... apparently the craft workshop's been taken over."

"Taken over?" Blade looked up from her mug of cactus tea and raised her eyebrow.

"Yes... by Deduk Kolninur." Blade simply stared blankly at Peasant, not a hint of recognition showing. "One of our new immigrants? A Ranger?"

"Aah." Blade got out of her seat and motioned for Peasant to follow, she'd deal with this Dodok.

At the craft workshop
"Oi! You!" barked blade, stopping a reasonable distance away from a dwarf who looked a tad... off. "Why don't you let the craftsdwarf get to work, eh?"

"Logs... plant cloth... logs... plant cloth..." Deduk looked up and giggled in a very disturbing manner.

Blade elected to back off slowly. Hopefully a caravan would come before the poor woman snapped.

3 Felsite
"Oooh, I like it! A truly attractive dwarf, if I do say so myself." Blade exclaimed, clapping her hands.

Flame Muffin simply tapped her heels and ground her teeth. Artistic integrity was now a thing of the past.

"A talented artist such as yourself will go far, grand living quarters, maybe a decent office..."

Flame shut Blade's voice out and simply examined her work with an eye to hammering it to dust. She couldn't even remember how Blade had extorted her into doing it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

12 Felsite
Pansy elves! With food! Too bad it's not much. Even less booze.

And then that sod of a liaison went and told me to stop butchering trees! WHAT TREES?! WE'RE IN A BLOODY DESERT! The only wood we have we just traded for from you idiots!

I was tempted to send in the militia to kill em all but then they'd probably end up doing more damage to themselves. At least that raving twit Deduk has his logs and plant cloth now.

----

Right, still got more stuff to post but I think I'll keep some backlog in case of playing delays :P

I play at work definitely not at work and the proxy blocks the protocols used by imageshack/photobucket/etc. (must use the java app to upload via FTP - as far as I know that's the only protocol universally blocked). I do keep on meaning to dump the screenies on a flash drive to bring home but I can't even remember what half of them refer to by now anyway...

btw Sizeak this is what prompted the idea of the CSV/XML export :P

I figured as much :D If you have problems with work blocking things, why don't you set up a vpn or ssh tunnel or something to your home network? What kind of job do you do? It's ok if you don't want to give that information out on the internet though.
