(Could someone do me a favor and provide some screenshots? My computer's been screwing up with print screen.)

This is what I can provide, though:

awesome! it's like a graphic set but with the good looks of an ascii tileset. i'll use it, infact, i could even contribute, if you want, there is a LOT of creatures.

I'd love some help!

Here's what I have for dwarf graphics so far: (not much substance, but a good amount of planning going on)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I want to do dwarves first, then animals, then elves, then goblins, then vermin, and everything else I may be forgetting last.

ok, i've got a cat, a dog, a cow and a cow calf.

i think we could try to have a basic goblin, elf, human, and domestic animals before doing every profession for dwarves

Creatures don't need to be (and in fact should not be) grayscale. Make them colorful. Definitely looking good, though.

Couple questions:
Is it possible to assign different sprites to different genders? Castes? What can't be done?

Your animals are much better than I could do. I think I'll leave them to you :P

I have been doing a bit for the dwarves, though.

But I also got an idea for a new tileset. So my attention is a little torn at the moment.  :)

I really like the look and feel of this tileset, but the only thing that is holding me back is the non square tiles  :-\

Is it possible to make it square?

Not a bad style, but the spacing between the letters needs work. Specifically, too many of them have too much space on either side; this results in weirdness with a fixed-width font. For instance, if you look at the default curses font, you'll notice really wide serifs/bars/whatevers on characters like "i" and "l" in order to compensate.
