Join a different room

Different atmospheres in different rooms are night and day. You have 'every mouse for himself' hilarious asshattery in some rooms and cohesive groups of mice grinding for titles and cheese in others.

Personally, I find it fairly amusing. As mentioned in other places, it's like multiplayer lemmings meets the Stanford Prison Experiment and a touch of "The Incredible Machine" games.

I try to help others as well as grab the cheese.
 On average I usually am the third-to-seventh to escape with the cheese anyway.
