Also, it's another random target for the Antarans.

The point is, there's really no reason not to colinize those.
Food, in the case of Nixitos II. And the incrediblly long build time. Not to mention that most of the planets (that I can see) in his area with ultra poor minerals have a crappy environment.

Every planet you own, lets you build more of the "automatic" stuff, like labs. It also means more population, which translates to more cash and again research.
Though Ultra poor planets take a long time to build those automatic facilities.

True... Man do I feel bad for agreeing. :P

Very true. Ultra poor planets make great farming colonies after sufficient terraforming.

It's also not wise to leave unclaimed planets in your starsystems, as the other races will inevitably send their own colony ships there.

And really, don't listen to the other advisors' demagogy. There are no useless planets, only poorly managed.

Well, then there's a reason to go to war then.

There ARE useless planets. How about an ultra poor toxic tiny planet in a system at the edge of the universe and it's the only planet in the system? Why would you ever want to colonize it? The only use I can think of is a distraction for the Antarans.

But yeah, all planets (barring the example I just posted) have potential. They just take a while to be made useful.

I am going to have to side with the idea that all planets are useful. At very least you'll get more tax income from the extra population while at the same time creating research or food.

DON'T colonize prioritize colonizing poor planets over good ones or over you're military
DON'T allow your ship yards to sit idle if there are planets to colonize

Command points are very hard to generate. It may be time to increase taxes. I am however, as your advisor, very much against this. If you have no money it is time to shrink the military.

Also I disagree on the weapons policy. While missiles are effective they are easy to shoot down and useless after the first minutes of combat. I would support the idea of building small ships loaded with missle racks that fire and retreat, leaving the larger, better defended ships behind to finsih the job.

Also: It's a good idea to know how many shots you should have per launcher. The less per launcher the more launchers you can have. Thus increasing the firepower of each wave, allowing you to destroy ships more quickly. However, If a ship is destroyed and there are missiles left unused from the wave, they are wasted.

Although I am not quite sure about the technological progress the Antarans have made since their last "visit", it sounds unlikely that they will be able to shoot down all our missiles. After talking with our head scientists, I am sure that a significant breakthrough in chemistry, especially concerning missiles, is much more likely than the development of new laser cannons.

I am in full agreement. Missiles, while not as fast as lasers, are very hard to bounce back to their sources. something several of my contacts have confirmed the Antarans are able to do.

I have also been consulting several of the top brass and have come up with a plan. I believe we should endeavor to capture an Antaran vessel, and bring it back to our shipyards for salvage. By doing this, we can reverse-engineer their technology and be better prepared to fight them. However, this will require more troops than we can currently fit on our ships. I therefore recommend refitting of our frigates to carry troop pods.

As a more advanced tactic, we should consider developing assault shuttles so that we don't have to disable the antaran ships to board them. A mass of frigates sending out assault shuttles should be able to overwhelm the antaran vessels, despite the heavy losses I'd expect our troops to take.

If we do go that route, we'll need to invest in ground combat technology to help counter the Antaran's advanced weaponry

And trade off the pollution processor?

Not a good trade in my opinion. Pollution hurts production planets a lot. So I'd rather have inferior missiles in greater quantities then better missiles in lesser quantities.

Look, MC Dirty, Yota is smart and famous. Don't listen to Crassus and his entourage of construction workers.
Capturing an antaran vessel is way out of our league. Maybe if our troops were as tenacious as Bulrathi are, we could've hoped for that tactic to succeed. Otherwise, it'd require a huge investment into ground combat technologies - rifles, armour, personal shields, antigravity harness etc. This leaves consideration of such an endeavour for later times.
Also, assault shuttles are not your only option there - "tractor beam" works perfectly with Antarans. It not only allows boarding, it makes the target easy to hit. "Transporters" are passable too, but not necessary. And of course, "troop pods".

As for the missiles craze, I think that using them ignores our great military advantage of racial combat bonuses. Get a battle scanner and a nice gun(e.g.neutron blaster) and improve the shield tech("inertial stabilizer" is nice), and I'm sure you'll be able to show those interdimensional bastards.

Mass Driver GET. It's my favorite weapon. No damage reduction means if it hits it always does 6 damage. Compared to the laser with it's varying 1-4 damage, and the fusion beam with it's 2-6 damage. So a ship armed with a decent amount of them can do quite a bit of damage at this stage in the game. It's far better then lasers or fusion beams.
