Here's a project: Get Terraforming and Terraform all of your planets.
Terraforming is a high-level biology thing, isn't it? That might take very long, but I'll see how that goes. ^^
Trust me, in the long run the effort will be worth the extra people.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Part 14 and Part 15 are now uploaded.
I have no chance against the Antarans. Help me, please?
My personal favorite tactic when engaging them with a fairly large fleet:
-keep your more powerful vessels near the planet
-bum rush them with the other ships.
-when you get close, set the ships to self destruct.
-finish them off with you other ships

other than that.... keep your ships up-to-date, pray they hit computer controlled planets, and stick to using missiles when fighting them. Beam weapons have a nasty tendency to reflect off of them and hit you instead.

speaking of which, what military technologies do we have at the moment?

Edit: actually, stick to missiles only early on. the first few laser techs suck.

Personally, I'd worry about the humans more. Notice how they are creaming the Alkari?

Just started watching this series of LPs.  Awesome.  For the first one, I was screaming at the screen, "PICK TACTICAL COMBAT! PICK IT! PLEASE PICK TACTICAL COMBAT!"

Awesome.

we really aren't at the point where lasers are helpful at the moment. best advice is to focus on missiles.

So I would re-design the cutlass with several Missile launchers(set them to 2x instead of 5x. you can get more of them and fire faster that way), some upgrades for durability, and a reinforced hull.

Re design the smaller ships with a battle computer and several Pd lasers each so you can shoot down enemy missiles.

As a policy note, I would start cranking out spies and sending them towards the Highest tech race. I mean a lot of spies, like 16 spies. They'll get pissed at you after a while, but with your engine ranges they won't be able to do anything.

I'm just a noob, but I don't worry about them too much. The fact that the only thing they want to offer me is Survival Pods is kind of embarassing. Also, the last time I played a bit in advance, they got destroyed by the Antarans like nobody's business. However, the Humans and Alkari often go to war with each other, no idea why. The Alkari are much more advanced. But the war weakens them both, making it more likely for the Antarans to attack me. And that's worrying.
The reason the offer you Survival pods is because it's around the same tech level. In reality they could have a much higher technology.

also, why do you keep rejecting research treaties? Especially when it comes to the humans you should generally accept those. they give you bonus RPs!

also: the reason your losing money is because you're 4 command point above what you can support. that's -40BC per turn.

Yota is dissapointed that you're often playing in advance. He also doesn't understand anybody's concerns with Humans, or any race for that matter. This is "tutor" difficulty level, you can take whatever the game throws at you head-on, and unless you try really hard, have no chance of losing.

That's one of the things the "useless" planets are good for. Build colony bases everywhere. Ultra poor? No farming? Have an automated factory, a lab and a starbase, and suddenly it's a valuable planet.
Researching better starbases(construction) might help too.

Even with an Automated factory. It still has very poor production compared to even poor planets. I'd wait until Deep Core Mining, Recyclotron, etc before colonizing them.

But if there's nothing better then the ultra poor planets, might as well colonize them.

The point is, there's really no reason not to colinize those. Every planet you own, lets you build more of the "automatic" stuff, like labs. It also means more population, which translates to more cash and again research.
And the colony bases are cheap. Heck, even a colony ship is not that bad at this stage of game.
