Breaking the 30 Military Dwarf Cap

So, I had a plan to make a dwarven Sparta, where, other than the weapon and armorsmiths, everyone was in the military 6 months of the year.  This seemed like a fun idea, until a friend pointed out to me "You can only have 30 military dwarves at a time."

I want to figure out how to ignore that cap, anyone have any ideas?

I'm not aware of any cap. You can have as many military dwarves as you want.

Magma and Water?!  You want Magma and Water!?!  THEN DIG IT OUT YOURSELF!!!


Seriously, what cap?  I've got about 35 at the moment, and all but 2 or 3 actually do group training....   (The rest stand around like shellshocked idiots but work well as pincushions....)

Really?  I can't seem to assign more than 30 dwarves (3 full squads) at a time.  I am very confused now.  Is there a noble position I'm missing that needs to be assigned?

After you have a captain of the guard, new squads are created by highlighting him in the military screen and pressing l, instead of pressing c.

Whoever pointed this out to you should learn a bit more about the game before coaching new people.
