Shit gets crazy when you include comments about abortion AND about how inferior somebody's language is in the same sentence. I like your style.

Armok: Lawl, Swedish education system is too difficult for people to understand. That's funny. At least being in Gymnasieskola makes you at least two years older than I thought.

Lots of us have already finished our entire secondary education, though. And read advanced stuff in university, where we discover that what we used to consider advanced is baby stuff.

What authours do you prefer? I hear a lot about Weber from my housemates. I'm a Drama major myself, so I mostly get to read theories from Brecht and Streisberg and the like. I read Ayn Rand for fun once, she's pretty funny.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Deathworks: When I say need to, I mean like what you have going on. If you know it to actually translate and comprehend stuff coming from Japan, that is your business and it is cool by me. I'm talking the annoying 13-15 yr olds (mostly) that learn it, not to translate stuff or in preparation for going to Japan or for workplace use or anything, but to pretend that they are Japanese Mary Sue's.

Hi!

Shit gets crazy when you include comments about abortion AND about how inferior somebody's language is in the same sentence. I like your style.

:) :) :) :) :)

Well, I can only say that I feel very strongly about the French language. And given that Latin is kind of the mother to French, I find the abortion image quite fitting. Anyhow, this is just my personal feelings towards the language, so if people like the language, I do not intend to attack them (fighting over personal feelings seems to be pointless). I hope I didn't offend anyone with those statements about French.

Sonerohi: Thank you for the clarification.

About Nikov: Since people have brought it up, I want to point out that I agree that I just consider him to have a rather extreme political opinion and is often rather vocal about it. But I don't see him making malicious attacks for their own sake, so calling him a troll does not seem right. I also have the impression that people underestimate his sense of humor. When it seemed that the two of us agreed on something and I said so, he vehemently distanced himself from the general idea of agreeing with me on anything - a reasonable but funny comment, given that my political agenda is directly contrary to his, it seems (although we do agree on the stance on communism, it seems, at least as far as real life implementation is concerned).

I chuckled a little when I read this. You don't fit my stereotype of a drama major; you tend to be really brusque.

Grakelin: You can study things without going to university. Jumping on someone's back for saying they study something on their own terms isn't very cool.

See, I think furries are weird. To some extent, Deathworks, you just add to that general view I have of them as odd. But you're a nice enough fellow so I don't speak ill of you. It even helps my view that you don't go around offensively about it like I've seen other furries do and spam porn all over the forums and posting in ALL CAPS about how they're not accepted. So it's just another quirk people have.

There are at least a few furries on the IRC channel, but you'd never guess it. There are probably a few here on the forums you'd never guess either.

Why? Because the ones with the catgirl avatars or spamming porn or getting vindictive are going to be the only ones you notice unless the topic comes up specifically and they feel the need to divulge the information.

Um, yes I have recoded proof. No, I don't have any that I'm willing to post to random strangers on the net, and you probably need to have an account to see it anyway, which you only have if you're a student in Sweden.

Dude I read Socrates, Gurdjieff and Neitzsche all the time, we should hook up sometime.
Historical importance and fame dosn't equal advanced. A better measure is the ratio of equations to plaintext, like in many other fields. Also lots of the best stuff isn't really marked as philosophy, but instead is the last chapter in a book about math/physics/biology/whatever that details the philosophical implications of the stuff said in the book.
Reading stuff at university really isn't that relevant if it's in an area not related to philosophy. I'm perfectly fine admitting you know more about drama and literature. If you can think of a way to translate my grades to something more easily understandable feel free to do so.

Coming from a philosophy major, that's pretty rich. There's a reason you didn't go into the math and science, and it ain't because philosophy was tougher. And I say that as a journalism major. Let's not over-inflate our egos, yes?

Sufficiently advanced philosophy is indistinguishable from math. There is lots of junk out there that'd make you believe otherwise, and it's possible to find "philosophy" educations that do teach the mental masturbation that some think is what philosophy is about instead of actual philosophy, but actual usefull modern philosophy is highly technical.

Please. You didn't just claim you "sort of do the same thing as math and science." You practice logical reasoning, you can construct a logical argument. You've got rules and theorems that apply to your field. That's it. That's where the similarities between actual technical work, and bullshitting, ends.

This is exactly why people flame you. Do you actually have a job practicing your highly technical skills? Because it seems more like....

And yes, I've met my share of philosophy majors. None of them quite had the stones to claim they're doing as relevant or difficult a work as say, engineering, math or science students though. They all roundly claimed they were smarter than those not doing philosophy though, because they had to think "real hard" on a daily basis.

To clarify for people about to prove to Armok just how wrong he is, he is a transcendentialist and a utilitarianist, or whatever. Basically, he thinks morality is math and wants to be a computer.

To be honest, I was expecting disagreement and explanation there. The times, they are a changing.
