mining picks
« on: June 20, 2010, 10:33:33 pm »

So I was attacking a goblin settlement full of goblinish humans hoping to get some kills and make a name for myself, and I was killing humans left and right with great ease with my steel battleaxe. The human general approached and told me "prepare to die". I struck him down as easily as the others. This went on for about 35 kills, then I am approached by a human miner, who wiped the floor with me with his mining pick. Game over man.

Are mining picks the best weapon right now? Maybe I should get one of those.

I'm pretty sure your damage and skill in combat with a mining pick is handled by your mining skill. Maybe you hit a legendary miner?

Then again, there's the luck factor. Sometimes you just can't escape total annihilation from something that would normally be deemed completely harmless, even adorable.

Happened to me. I killed 5 cyclops something 30 ogres, 20 harpys, 3 ettins, 20 goblins, and ONE, ONE MINER KILLED ME. I have no clue he kept throwing my weapons away or something, and I could never seem to equip them again, and I was legendary fighter/wrestler. I think they broken.

Yeah, somthing is up with picks. I have slaughtered entire settlements without issue, only for the resident miner to impale me through the neck.

Or....get a well made pick from an abandoned fortress (or embark a few dwarves then abandon immediately, way faster) and use it to your hearts content (makes fine throwing projectiles too).

Just attack miners at a distance by throwing small animals at them.

This is the oddest line I've ever read on this forum. My mom couldn't help but see this over my shoulder, and she started laughing. So hard.

While I am glad I amused your mom, what I said has precedent.

What did your mom say about the fact that you're apparently a "Double Penis"? :P

---

On topic, miners have always been extremely deadly, due to the fact that picks are piercing weapons and mining skill is linked to picks when you wield them as a weapon.
