Found this one a long time ago. Don't have the save anymore, sadly. Also didn't stay there because I was testing a mod (which was probably the cause of the random wagon fire).

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

That's what I like about DF... in other games, people would say "This landscape is totally bugged!", in DF it's "Neat, I got a river flowing through a volcano!"  :P

Anyway, the weirdest map I got had a major river (around 30 tiles wide) with a giant cliff on one side and completely flat tundra on the other. The high side also got a magma pipe going all the way to the top, many levels above the surface of the river. I dug a pipe from the magma to the river and made delicious roasted carp. That was back in 40d though and I lost the worldgen :(

I honestly never embarked anywhere that violated dwarf physics.  But I did come across this awesome network of mountain rivers and waterfalls.

I have an embark where one of the biomes is a heavily forested, freezing ocean.

Sadly, the biome stats are made of lies.  There is not a tree on that damn ocean.  :'(
Digging a fortress into the ice anyway.

Had a volcano once where the magma pipe came out of the mountainside. I considered draining the magma into the world (incidentally creating a 30z magma-fall) as a defense mechanism, before abandoning due to an unrelated but hilarious incident involving magma, and the incorrect application thereof on dwarven society.

There is no incorrect application for magma.

I had one embark that was the shore of a lake with a river about two thirds of the way down the lefthand side of the map. My wagon was right on the shore of the lake; my dwarves moved around for a few seconds and then the game locked up for several minutes. At first, I thought, oh great, everything thawed out at once as I've had this happen before whenever a lake froze or thrawed out.

After it finally started going again, I noticed the lake was gone. Well, sort of. Apparently the river itself was three or four z-levels under the surface of the lake and the result was that the lake flowed offscreen enough that its surface fell to the same level as the river. So there was the lake surface several levels down with 7/7 water on most of the surface. Considering that the lake was about half the map or better, that's a lot of water leaving the map at the same time.

i recently embarked on an empty dark tower and there was a brook in it.....and the brook was a 10 Z-levels off the ground and was basicly a solid wall of earth with water in it.

I had a tiny ocean once. Sadly I was too much of a newbie to take proper advantage of it.

I've gotten one embark site without any water (including the caves). Maybe not that weird, but the strangest I've seen.

I got a volcano under frozen ocean once. Almost all of the map consisted of this ocean. When it thawed, I caught a glimpse of solid obsidian cap and then my dwarfs died a horrible death :(
