Tileset/ no tileset poll
« on: June 20, 2010, 04:53:52 am »

Just a quick poll, I'm curious as to see how many players use a tileset compared to those who dont.

I use Mayday's tileset to be specific. Especially since I use my DF to get other people to play a lot of the time, and they kind of get turned off by ascii.

I use Marvii's tileset, mainly because it looks nice and clean and is square.

I use ironhand's tileset. I wouldn't mind the ascii so much if it weren't for the "." as ground tiles.

A nice round 10:10 after I voted (voted no).

You might want to rephrase 'tileset' to 'graphic tileset' though, as ascii still uses tilesets in most cases.

Fairly even, so far, I thought there would be more division. Personally, I don't use a tileset, and as a result most of my constructions and megaprojects end up being oblong :<

Tried the graphical tilesets when workmates insisted it was better with them.  Went back to good old 'Markvii' ASCII tileset though.  Just my preference.

I use the vanilla graphics.

I usually use tilesets, but I've been running mostly vanilla for 2010, for the most part. Not really sure why. I guess I sorta bounce between the two.

I find it much easier to know what I am looking at with the ASCII mode. That's why I don't use graphical tilesets.

I can understand why people might not want to use a graphical tileset but what I don't understand is how they can tolerate oblong characters.  Maps just look wrong when they don't use square characters.

I don't know if it was too much nethack as a kid or what, but the default ascii seems way more intuitive to me than any of the graphical tile sets.  They just seem too busy to me.

The oblong-ness isn't a big deal, I can count  8)

There are default square tilesets that come with the game and can be easily configured.
I prefer square ASCII tiles, but I'd like them to be a bit smoother. Any link to standard yet smoothed sets?

I use graphical tilesets because ascii is just so dark, nothing pops out.

I use ascii, because I have yet to see a graphic tileset that wasn't totally fugly, IMO.

That, and it makes DF more like reading a book and less like watching a movie.
