I only get fish dissectors in areas without fish. Lots and lots of them.

Either they're VERY tired of fish and looking to change, or they're in the area looking for "the next challenge".

I haven't had anything really lucky yet, since I don't play that often right now. (Tending to RL stuff or non-DF forms of entertainment)

So far, I'm one of those people who only gets High Masters in stuff like Fish Dissection and Furnace Operating. Especially Fish Dissection.

I feel your pain.  :-[

I've had several high master metal crafters (and other metalworkers) in my current fort, but I don't have a metal industry set up yet, so they're idling.  Also, they have a high rate of getting into strange moods, and failing because I don't  have an anvil.

I had one once who was both a master weapon smith and a high master brewer.

I immediately renamed him "Urist the Longbeard" and gave him a legendary bedroom.

I think my luck's turning around with migrants on my current fort. Just as I finished irrigating my giant farm area, a High Master grower shows up. I got a collection of various metalworkers in the deal as well.

And just now, at the start of the second year I got a wave of 19 immigrants, doubling my population to 38. Didn't look at everything, but I'm definitely going to take a good look at them in Dwarf Therapist.

My current game has netted me a high master carpenter (who mooded and is now legendary) and a high master gem setter (glass-encrusted beds for everybody!).

I had a grand high master weaponsmith, who went Fey, made an artifact, levelled up to legendary.
I didn't use him for any weaponsmithing for ages and his skill degraded, so he went Fey a second time and made a second artifact.

Recently got a grand master stonecrafter in the very first wave of migrants. Very useful, considering my tendency to spam rock crafts and buy out the first caravans for food, drink and leather.

I get High Master migrants quite often. I think I got a legendary Thresher once  :'(

Same here. Though many of them aren't that useful, High Master Weaponsmiths, Masons, and Craftsdwarves aren't that uncommon, it seems.

In my last fort, I had a legendary Miller show up. I nicknamed him "Master McDonnell."

Impossible. One dwarf can have only one mood in his lifetime.

Makes me wonder what % of all stories on DF forums are made up. ::)

I just got a dwarf who's competent in several military skills, but also a talented bone doctor and wound dresser.  Despite him having the brutally badass name "Fedbronze", I need a doctor more than I need a soldier.

Why do I get all of the useless immigrants? you guys are getting awesome stuff and I get mid-level jewlcutters.
I think my best ever immigrant had "high master" in the fighting-related skills and lasher, as well as expert and above in most of the medical skills.
Wait, you got Doctor Mcninja?
