Why do I get all of the useless immigrants? you guys are getting awesome stuff and I get mid-level jewlcutters.
I think my best ever immigrant had "high master" in the fighting-related skills and lasher, as well as expert and above in most of the medical skills.
Wait, you got Doctor Mcninja?

I'd be ecstatic about jewelers! I get useless soapers and potash makers and PUMP OPERATORS. I've gotten 4 legendary pump operators in as many waves.

To continue the derail, my useless dwarves tend to be waves upon waves of fishermen, fish cleaners, and fish dissectors. On a desert map. With surprisingly water free caverns.

I had a grand high master weaponsmith, who went Fey, made an artifact, levelled up to legendary.
I didn't use him for any weaponsmithing for ages and his skill degraded, so he went Fey a second time and made a second artifact.
Impossible. One dwarf can have only one mood in his lifetime.

Makes me wonder what % of all stories on DF forums are made up. ::)

Indeed, True dwarf s never lie, it's the province of elvish scum.
But I've heard that, in a sufficiently population-low fortress, that dwarves have had multiple moods; ergo it is possible that he isn't lying. Do we have a citation for one mood per life, or is it just common lore based on a lot of people with a lot of dwarves?

I once got a migrant grand master ambusher who killed a titan that showed up at the same time as that migrant wave did. Suffice to say he is now the head of my military.

Also, same fort, I got a legendary of every type of metal working. Bladesmith, Armorsmith, Blacksmith, Metalcrafter... It completley changed how I view migrant waves

Go into your stocks menu. You'll see a masterwork adamantine sword of some kind. Zoom to its location and you'll be directed to the bottom of the curious structure.

Go now and claim what is rightly yours. And watch out for the zombies.

I've never gotten a legendary anything, unfortunately, except for one dwarf.

A stonecrafter.

I made for him a 1x1 burrows inside my magma aqueduct.

What wrong with a stonecrafter?  :o

Stone crafts are excellent trade goods.

Stonecrafters are useless. Name one stonecraft that has any practical use. And no, trading for imported items does not qualify as a practical use. I almost never build craftsdwarf workshops. When an unskilled dwarf goes moody, I let him die and sell his clothes to the caravan.

I would kill for a legendary stonecrafter and you would kill to get rid of one?

I got some kind of Jack of All Trades guy that seems to have almost every non-social skill except Woodworking and Mechanic.
He's got combat skills too.
I enabled all his labors and just let him do whatever needs done.

Any particular reason?

Well, maybe because after your first caravan visit, trading is less of a matter of getting stuff you want than it is of getting rid of stuff you don't want, that won't burn in magma.

The dregs of trying to level up a weaponsmith can buy out years and years of caravans, for instance.

But I've heard that,
Forum link to report about it or it didn't happen.

in a sufficiently population-low fortress, that dwarves have had multiple moods
Never heard about something like that, never encountered. Everyone go through low-population fortresses. Many players (like Deathworks) specifically set max amount of dwarves to be low. And no one reported occurence of dorf that had mood twice?

Ergo, sounds like made up rumor.

Do we have a citation for one mood per life,
Wiki (for 40d) states it clearly.
Quote
A dwarf will only be struck by a mood once in their lifetime.
And I do not think this kind of significant change would be silently commited by Toady. I also doubt no one would report occurence of it on forum. So, no double moods in  0.31.x, only made up rumors.

or is it just common lore based on a lot of people with a lot of dwarves?
I repeat: Everyone go through low-population fortresses. So this condition is worth nothing.
