I promised my Professor I'd promote this.
« on: June 19, 2010, 05:04:17 am »

One of my Professors this summer, and a renowned figure across my campus, is Dr. Allan Saxe, a timid gimpy little man with a bark far worse than his bite.  He teaches several courses focusing on critical exploration of American politics, which is a fancy way of saying he comes in and rants for two hours about whatever he saw on the news that day, playfully berating everyone who disagrees with him while basking in his own hypocrisy.  He's basically a "LIBERTERIAN 4EVA!!!1!" teenage message-board troll, but in real life and he's older than dirt.  In case it isn't obvious, I think he's a pretty cool guy and I hate everything about him.

What this thread is really about though, is that I promised to promote his wacky sense of humor - namely, by showing everyone I can this video of him from the mid 80's he just (got someone else to) put on YouTube a few days ago.  It's probably the first of many.  Help me turn him into an Internet Celebrity by Digging and forwarding and buddylisting and all that newfangled social networking crap you kids are into.

Thanks for letting me crap up the board with shameless promotion, since I'm not promoting myself.

It's funny, all I got from this is "Okay, so Aqizzar lives there, how much more personal information can I wring from this?"

I am not a good person.

EDIT: And that this guy is awesome.

Seriously, how the fuck can you sit through his classes with a straight face knowing he did this? It's really impressive (and really, really dumb). I wonder how much work he put into it to set it up? 80s technology can't have made it easy.

Wha...How did he think of... I don't even know what to think of anything anymore. My worldview has been hit with a hammer. That was the single most mindless thing I have seen in a long time. You know what? No. This didn't happen. And I didn't post this. I shall leave this thread that never existed and move on with my life in bliss.

At first I was like: Huh, title means this might be interesting.
Then I was like: What the hellllllll-
Then I was like: Dude, where did you get those red clothes? I thought Michael made them out of sheer force of will conjuring up the 80's.
Then I was like: Those actually are not some bad zombie-Is that ET?
Then I was like: Alright, I think my friends at that wedding did the dance better overall. Still, impressive.

Bwuh. Guh. I'm with Jack on this, how can you sit through his classes now?

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

So that this is more than just a bump, I'd like to point out that Dr. Saxe is over 70.  That means he was in his mid 40's when that video was made.  And yeah he's pretty much the same guy now, and I don't take him seriously anyway.

Lol, a lot of my professors are like that in one way or another. My head of school does similar odd things; I just found his Facebook profile while Googling how to spell his name. I'm willing to bet that just about all the signal processing ones are partly doing it to troll people. Math lecturer tells us to use "magic" to solve equations. Business lecturer had an exam question on "an application to show how manly you really are" and "picking up chicks", aside from showing us a video with "minor nudity" and telling us it's examinable material.

It's still pretty cool though, just another reason why I think smart people are crazy.

There is a proven link between IQ and vunerablity to mental illness. The higher up you are, the more risk there is. I forget who said that Genius and Madness were two sides of the same coin, but they were right.

history is full of geniuses which were ... less than normal in behavior.
in fact, probably if you aren't at least partially mad you probably are just brilliant, not a genius.

I think the reason we notice that geniuses are insane is because the geniuses that aren't insane aren't as noteworthy, and the dumb people that are insane are ignored.
