Need a Consistent Dwarf Interface
« on: May 17, 2007, 04:25:00 pm »

As a noob, I'm not 100% acclimated to the keyboard shortcuts and therefore, I access my detailed dwarf information in a number of ways; through the 'u', 'v' and 'k' keys, if I'm not mistaken.

Each one brings up different options in the Dwarf view; if I look at my Dwarf on some views, I have 3 options, other times I have just one (thoughts).

I recommend that this screen be made consistent across the board.

k is a generic "look and see what's there."  All it does is list the items in that square (and enter selects that object and you then view it and its contents the same way).  For dwarves it shows thoughts and preferences, but I guess that's like viewing the description of an object ("this is a well-made vause").

u brings up the unit list, it shows names and current job of every unit in the fortress.  hitting c zooms to that unit as if you had hit v next to it.

v shows you the dwarf as a person instead of an object: skills, injury, thoughts, and commands you can give.

k works on objects and locations, u and v do not.

u shows you ALL units, v and k show you one.
