Space Empires V multiplayer idea.

I've been toying with the idea of a community SEV game for a while now, hoping for some really cool stories and situations. Ive come up with two ideas. Spoilered for length.

Idea 1.

Specific game rules, such as limits on fighters, which mods to use, etc. would be determined if and when we get enough players for a game.

I would go for option 2. I just don't think you can get enough people together for option 1.

Never played multiplayer before, might be fun. Any chance of messing with the victory conditions? I like to build my perfect little empire and if people keep traipsing all over it with a homicidal frenzy it might make me sad...

I read a thread of people doing an RP game somewhere on the SEV forums, probably wouldn't suit everyone's tastes though...

Hmmm, 3 people, maybe advertising on some other SE threads would help...

I just bought this for dirt cheap off steam, so I'd be game for a game of either sort if you ran it!

Well, five people is enough to get started on rule discussion. I suggest we use the latest version of Kwok's balance mod that's available when we start as it cleans up a lot of issues from vanilla, and have a twelve-hour time limit on turns (of course, if your turn take five minuts, we can go a lot quicker.)

I can definitely AIM for 12 hour turnover, however, if the turn goes up at ten, and I can't get to it, in an hour or two, I go to bed, get up, and am then at work till 4. plus having a child to take care of. I'd much prefer aiming for 12 max, but having 24 hours to get it in in a long shot.

And on a different note, anyone know how to fix the white flashes while the game is running?

I thought about it, and even a 48 hour turnover would be too little for me. I don't think I can join this. I'll keep and eye on the goings on though :)

With an international crowd you can't really hope for more than 24 hours reliably. Ad with different people's timetables you might find that too much. Having teams might help, if two people from different timezones both controlled the same empire then you could probably get turnover down to something a little below 24 hours. Early on we could try to get everyone lined up at the same time to get a few turns done in quick succession.

I would tend towards cluster(or whatever you call the one with bundles of stars connected by single warps) galaxy, for a mix of choke-points and multiple fronts.

The 12 was just a suggestion. We'll probably have to go longer (which will work okay if we can set up a time and crank out the first ten or twenty turns (when you have very little to do) real quick.
