Seriously, I'm kind of let down by how they don't actually talk to me, they just occasionally ask me yes or no questions.

It's really hard to program realistic AI, dude. Really, really hard.
But they do respond to things you say, for example if they disagree about the decoration and you tell them your opinion. Or if you start randomly swearing at them or molesting them.

That's not really an excuse when you're headlining your work in regards to its great AI.

EDIT: Chatroom is done a lot better, in my opinion. A big part of it is probably that you have a general idea of what to do and say. Facade just confused me, and by the time I realized the game was all about the marital problems of this couple, I was left wondering what exactly my role was.

That was hilarious. My sisters only want to tal;k about pie to these people, making them "Uhh..." the whole time. It's annoying. Hell, they "Uhh..." enough already. It's like sitting down with the Obamas.

Well, the idea was that it was groundbreaking. This was years ago, it was probably pretty good relative to other AI's back then.

Hmmm. Chatroom is pretty smart, actually.
Of course, it kind of pulls off the intelligence by saying "..." and "mmm" and "all right" all the time. It's like a bot that accurately simulates a certain kind of human by doing nothing but swearing belligerently at every possible moment. It does respond well, but... only to certain things, certain keywords. If it picks up a keyword, it spits out the phrase for that keyword. Luke said he didn't have a pet. I said I had a pet. Luke then said he didn't have a pet. I said I had a dog. Luke said he didn't have a pet again. I said the dog's name was Rascal. Luke said - wonder of wonders - that he didn't have a pet. Meh.

Chatroom goes "Uhh..." a whole bunch too. I mean, at least Trip responds if he talks about his picture and you say that you hate it or whatever. If you do that with Luke, he just says "I don't have any pets" fifty times.
