Transition from 40d to 2010.
« on: June 17, 2010, 04:13:54 pm »

Hi,
I played DF for about 2 weeks, 40d only.

Now I'm switching to 31.06 with one thing in mind: how much can I mod?

I hear there are new possibilities in 31.06?

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

I wouldn't exactly say there is more to mod, cept for the workshops being new. There's tons of custom reactions that are do-able (see my guide for the most complete product list I have(see my sig)). Creatures are way more extensive and interesting... tons harder as well.

Was there something you had in mind?

I mod games and educate others how to do so as well, if you'd like to learn join my Discord and you can join a bunch of like minded individuals. (Presently modding Space Engineers and No Man's Sky.)

Looking into modding DF? This forum guide & wiki guide may still be a good start!

Castes are interesting. Check out Deon's Genesis Mod for a good look at castes at work.
So are multiple creatures in the same civ.

Some things mod-wise have been set back apace, but that's mostly limited to things like trying to create shells and bones from reactions.

Are you looking to mod in critters or new reactions, or a bit of both?

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

I just started reading Shao's guide just to understand what a reaction is :)

I like war unicorns, I'd also like to create my own domestic war breed that I could take with me on embark.

I was also thinking about a research lab, which could "create" concepts like gunpowder which would then unlock new production items, such as rifles. Or sth like that.

I'm also reading about the Genesis mod and I see Deon made new buildings - good, good.
