Warthogs are technically pigs as they are in the same group as domestic pigs.

Well, I suspect it is natural to have animals from the pig group in the world. It's just not natural for dwarves to domesticate them.
However, it is much more likely that Toady just leaves all these things for modders to handle =) and current set-up of animals in the world is more a legacy than specific planning.

Dwarves consider pigs neither kosher nor halal. So there is no point in implementing them.

They are, however, neither as savage nor as deadly as domestic pigs. Those things eat people.

i usually mod in several breeds of pigs, including huge pigs, naked mole boars, dwarven war pigs, etc.
