Well, I do believe Bullfrog still exists, or at least the companies that purchased it do.

Why do people always say abandonware is illegal?

It's only illegal if the ESA files suit. Abandonia is very clear about what it does and the rules behind it.

Also, I don't remember Syndicate Wars being terrible. I think I actually played more of that than the original. Sadly, this game runs like ass today, I found it unplayable when I revisited it recently.

Oh yeah, it was a cool game for sure. The destructible town, the cars and the civillians made it really fun to play. And of course all the customization of your agents was quite new and awesome too. I am not sure if I can enjoy it now, but I have very positive memories.

Because it is? Abandonware is technically illegal in america's crappy protectionist laws. Just because nobody is pressing charges against them, doesn't mean it's not illegal.

But if you cannot find a legal alternative, who can blame you?

More on topic, I liked the second syndicate a lot. But having to deal with 4 agents at the same time was always kind of annoying to me.

Meh. Abandonia has been up for probably 8 years now. They draw a very sharp distinction between titles that are protected by the ESA and those that aren't. Even different games from the same publishers have different statuses, and they get updated frequently.

If the only difference between legal and illegal is the amount of money spent, I don't care a fig for the legality of it, and clearly neither does Abandonia.

I played Syndicate Wars on the PS1, and it was pretty good. I haven't played the original(about to).

Oh, and this bit in the Syndicate manual about the Tasmanian Liberation Consortium:

Pirate, bah. If getting a game made over 20 years ago, that NO ONE OFFERS FOR SALE makes me a pirate, then shiver me fucking timbers. I think we're slowly getting brainwashed by the industry to see things their way; they own everything in perpetuity and you're a thief until they decide to do a reboot, or resell a game at ridiculous prices.

If that's their argument, my argument is they have to spend money before I'm an actual pirate. Quid pro quo, bitches.

And yes, that song is ****ing awesome.

Ahoy matey!  To the port of Tripoli we go!

Repeat something often enough and people will begin to believe it.

Hah, what's wrong with being the pirate anyway? It's like saying that being a mormon is bad :).

I always liked Nintendo's stance on it. I recall hearing one executive say that he didn't care about pirating the older games, and actually thought it did Nintendo good.

Other than rickets and scurvy, very little.

Anyways, sorry for the derail. This is about Syndicate, not piracy. (Yar harr)

Well, not us, but the government maybe with all the lobbying. I'm anti-copyright. *shrugs*

Speaking of that, wasn't it great to persuade all police officers in the syndicate games and create an army?

technically about both. ya kinda need to do one to get the other, unless Syndicate is on GOG.
