What if he wants your wife?
I don't think that's a valid form of compensation in court yet.

Otherwise... yeah, there are a few legitimate reasons people would want to enter your house.  And you've kindof fucked yourself over if you ever have a heart attack or stroke in the night (it'll be great fun guiding the paramedics in...).

First off, I'm going to point out that you can SUE anyone.

But will the burgler win if their intent was breaking and entering, especially with a weapon?

Probably not.

Dead can't sue.

Trap? Oh, I forget I'm talking to an international collection of serfs, slaves, and unarmed thralls to the state. No, I'd shoot anyone who came into my house when the wife and baby are home. That's legal in my state, too.

I know you like to troll, but this thread is not about shooting people to death as they burst into your home. It's about setting a trap for them.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Haven't you kindof shown premediation in this thread?

Uh, that refers the Nikov, not Grakelin.

Let's say a burglar does break into your house, and you do shoot him to death.  Doesn't what you've said in this thread demonstrate that such a killing was not in self defence, and was in fact a premediated murder?

Do you put traps in your home? I doubt it for some reason. If you do, I'm very surprised. If you don't, consider why not.
I don't.
Its not my own home, can't get away with that sort of shenanigans...  >.>
Don't expect it to fly in an apartment either.

And traps don't necessarily have to be lethal to do the job.

...what about a cage trap?
Would that be illegal?

Since the original intent was to show me an article, it would behoove me to respond.

I already knew it's illegal to booby-trap your home, that's pretty much universal across the industrial world.  All the alarms and cunning ruses you want, just nothing that's actually intended to cause harm.  Even that is a pretty relative term.  If you wanted to put flimsy plate-glass decorations under every window, so a burglar would have to make a lot of noise and step on broken glass to get in, that would be weird, but you could make a serious argument that it's not intended to harm.  That line of logic goes much more so for a broom just laying in front of a stairway, so I'm going to say that the story is indeed lies and hearsay.

I dunno, that seems kinda like setting a trap. It implies he was prepared and waiting for the burglar.

That string attached to a door that causes a pile of rocks to fall down from the ceiling wasn't intended to harm the burglar. It was simply art. (Or an experiment.)

If it crushes them, yes.

Ninja Aqizzar: Nobody in their right mind would put a broom across their basement staircase, though.
