Sorry for taking so long. This week has not been a good week for DF. Job hunting, housework and depression have kinda ganged up on me to stop me wanting to do anything once I've done what I have to do for the day.

I can try to get the entire year done today, if that's alright.

ploughing onwards before anyone can say no...

Journal of Burnt Aristkol, Furnace Operator.

A rather frazzled looking Miner walked up to me today. He told me I'm in charge of the fort, I needed to ensure the safety of everyone inside it, and all this was on top of my regular duties. After all, Pig Iron needs smelting!

Great. Well, I'd better get on with taking stock of where we are.

33 Dwarves, 7 of us training for War, Pest Control, or whatever else decides to get in our way. The rest of us go about our daily lives happy in the notion that nothing can get inside once we pull up the drawbridge. Nothing interesting at the moment. Better get down to the task of Governance.

Journal of Burnt Aristkol, GRAND TECHNICIAN OF MAGMA (7th Granite)

The Rocks talk to me. They tell me they are cold, that the lifeblood of the world has retreated far from the shell we inhabit. They tell me that they need the warmth of the centre of the earth if we want to reap the bounties they hide inside them.

It is decided. The surface of our world will once again see Magma! Magma, Lifeblood of the world, destroyer of armies and forger of (dwarven) civilisations!

Journal of Burnt Aristkol, GRAND TECHNICIAN OF MAGMA (23rd Granite)

I've ordered all the ramps near the entrance removed. It'll take us very slightly longer to move around, but it means any Goblins armed with bows won't be able to walk down them and fire inside, unhindered by our fortifications. I've seen too many good dwarves go that way, simply because of the route the goblins took to get to our front door. I've ordered a few Grates made to protect the fortifications further. They should stop anyone getting close enough to use them from outside.

Digging proceeds, as we go further downwards!

Well, fittingly enough, we just struck Granite. It's a sign! A sign of our success!

We've hit a large cavern. I'm not one for exploring, so I've walled it off, and we're continuing downwards at full speed.

Journal of Burnt Aristkol, GRAND TECHNICIAN OF MAGMA (8th Felsite)

Well, discovering a few plans for extra rooms scattered around the fort, I've excavated a lot of bedrooms for our new arrivals. Every dwarf shall have a bed before my time is done.

In other news, we've hit another cavern. this one is much easier to wall off, as we only grazed it with one staircase, and there's no water at the bottom to force us to change where we're digging. It's being walled now, I anticipate us hitting the last cavern, which the miners assure me will be there, some time in this month.

The elves are here. I'll sell them some of the goblin clothes, see if we can get some booze off them. Mason's walled himself into the cavern, and all the miners are asleep. he'll get rescued soon.

An Ambush! Curse Them!

The migrant fisherdwarf found them, then their hammers and maces found her. She's still alive, but her heart's not looking too good, and they're surrounding and beating her.

I'm hoping the traps we have laid down will be enough to stop them, as I'm not sure our military is really up to the task of taking down heavily armoured goblins, and even then I don't know if they'll listen to me.

We've lost Fath Mengzursul, a brave spearmaster. He fought well until a lucky blow to the spine knocked him down, at which point the goblins swarmed him. The axe lord Bim Ilushlikot is down in the hospital now, having his spinal injury diagnosed, as is the Wrestler Sazir Kosothazuz.

It appears the first deaths in the fort have been under my rule. I am ashamed of my self, and will endeavor to ensure this never happens again.

On a lighter note, the Clothier's shop has just been claimed by Thob Ilidsigun. I can only hope he finds what he seeks in there.

I'm impressed to see that much writing in a day really.  Makes me want to play more sparkgear.

Also, let's hope for some legendary silk pants out of this clothier.

I'm not waking up at 5 in the bloody morning just so I can reply to your stuff.

I'll reply to it now. Looking pretty good. Also, it's sad to hear of Fath's passing. He was a legendary woodcrafter... I mean sure, he didn't make anything USEFUL, but he was still a soldier.

Oh, and I don't suggest selling the goblin clothes. I got our exported wealth up by fivefold, but we could still do with some more.

Also, if you kill ME while telling me to dig down to magma, I will be slightly upset.
