I'd be quite interested in playing this. I'm a reasonable player, not an expert, not a newbie, and I can manage a fort of 60-80 dwarves in 40d. It'd be fun to have a go at playing DF2010 in a succession which wasn't crippled by FPS like the sparkgear I had a go at.

Newbie. Count me in third. If we get dorfs I would like:

Urist McHammerdwarf:
(Not So) Epic Hammerer

Hammerdwarf skill: 3 pts.
Dodger skill: 2 pts.
Armor User skill: 3 pts.
Wrestler skill: 1 pt.
Pacifier skill 1 pt.

Items: (If we can spend points; if a backslash list, in order of preference)
1 bronze/iron/copper War Hammer
10 sand bags
1 set of Bronze/Iron Helm, Chainmail, Gauntlets, Leggings, Shield

I will take the fourth turn then.

Gives me some days to catch other things before my turn (finishing contest fort, continuing a bit my story fort and community fort).

I don't need any dwarf at this point, I'll probably pick one at my own turn.

I, too, am happy to pick a dwarf from those available in my turn.

I'd love to join.  A few weeks ago I would have considered myself a newbie when I started doing succession games; but having played a few (and seen what others do), not to be arrogant, but I'm wiling to call myself an expert for these purposes.

It is such a deep game, it seems hard to say "I am an expert" without being a modder and being the sort of person who knows all about custom worldgen parameters and whatnot.  But I'm going to go out on that limb despite my shortcomings.   :-\

Throw me in for whatever expert turn makes things work smoothly.  Earlier the better, but I'm not picky.

P.S. Name the mechanic after me please?

I'd be willing to take a turn. Also, if we get to be dwarfed, can I get the first migrant doctor? Name him "Evil" for me if so.

So far, then, we have:

Snook (Me!)
Burnt Pies
Broadblocks
Kipi
UmbrageOfSnow
evilgenius21

In that order, so far. And Broadblocks gives me an idea, if everyone is happy with it: The first 7 to join can (if they want) choose one of the starting 7. The dorf will be re-named, given their own title (profession), and be given whatever skills the players wants them to have on embark (this could result in Fun and hilarity.) If the player doesn't want a dorf on embark, they can choose from among the waves of immigrants that will flood our fort (possibly in a very literal sense.) Items will be given if we have the points for it; if we have to choose between survival or some ridiculous item you want... Well, if you have a good reason, I'll get the item in the name of Fun. But try to allow us to survive.

Before you go and start picking skills and titles, remember the rules for distributing skills (review the wiki or test it out in-game) and how about we decide on which version we'll play? I'm putting a vote up. Try and justify your vote!

Personally, I'm torn between 31.06 and 40d. 40d is less buggy, but also has fewer features (and personally I'd prefer to start then, since I get stupidly low fps in 40d.) 31.06 is faster, has more features, but as we all know is bugged to hellHFS and back. I'm leaning more towards 31.06, though, since Toady will hopefully iron out the bugs in the weeks to come, and as far as I know saves can be updated.

Honestly I haven't had all that many bugs in DF2010.  I'm sure the first few releases were buggy, but by the time the Mac merge was released, it seemed fine to me.  I had the expedition leader die and have nobles become unreplacable bug (now fixed), but a mayor was eventually elected and it fixed itself.  Totally worth it for the speed and features, and I think it isn't as buggy as you'd think from reading the forums.  Toady fixes more bugs every day, and I was fine with playing .04; so .06 is great.

I'll post what I want to do with my dwarf later, but I do like that idea.

Because of my POS Computer, if I joined this, I'd have to have the first turn. How that would end up is the fort (depending on starting location) ending either terribly or mediocre(ly?). If you don't mind either of those,  then sign me up! (And if you sign me up. 31.06 please.)

Also bear in mind that dwarves have their heads at a perfect height for a good face-kicking.
That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.

breadbocks is angered! I vote for DF2010, because any speed I can gain is a plus. I use a netbook, and 40d runs about 9FPS for me. :/

Given that I've been putting off learning how to use 2010, I think this'll put me towards the newbie end of the spectrum.

Still, it'll be fun. I've picked up enough from reading everyone else's posts that I know most of the surprises it's likely to spring on me.

Sorry BroadbloBreadbocks!

I'd recommend playing a game or two of 31.06 to familiarize yourself with the changes that have been made. And fuzzy, I don't mind going second (or even third) as long as I'm amongst the starting 7, if we choose to do that. I'll add you to the tentative list as soon as I have access to a computer again, and I'm going to reformat the OP to be more edit friendly so I can keep it up to date.

As soon as I get a majority (5+) vote for the version, I'm putting up a poll for our embark point.

Sorry BroadbloBreadbocks! breadbocks
Is my name really that hard? b-r-e-a-d-b-o-c-k-s. Common noun. Uncapitalized. Improper noun.
Also, a majority would be 4, not 5.

You're upset about capitalization now?

On the internet people usually capitalize at random anyway.  I don't even notice when people talk about me capitalized or not.

Relax and enjoy the sweet scent of the internet, don't stress so much Breed_Box  ;)
