How awesome is America?  All we have to do is not lose, and we win.  Seriously, we scored.  By the laws of 80's underdog sports movies, that means we triumphed.

Don't be silly, you know what they mean. If Sweden tied against England, or any other of the best/better football nations, I'd definitely call that a win as well.

2-0 vs denmark. Not too bad, considering how bad the Netherlands played.

Woo!

I was so ecstatic when I saw the ball go by England's goalkeeper. I was not when I saw England score in the first 4 minutes of the game.

I'm curious, is football gaining any foothold in USA? Ie, how many people are actually aware that you guys have a team in the World Cup, or that there is a World Cup going on?

We do have a number of soccer fans, and I saw an article on the World Cup on the front page of a newspaper, so it must be important to somebody.

Football and baseball season seem to get more attention though.

Football (soccer) is seen more as an after-school activity for over-privileged suburban kids (hence the term "soccer moms") and paradoxically the sport of Hispanic kids, who as my father put it "kick a ball around with their feet because they can't afford the equipment to play any other sport".  In other words, America doesn't really give a shit, and for God knows what reason, actually draw regular proud applause at making fun of how we're the only country that doesn't call it "football".

That dang liberal media is doing its best to make it look cool though.  Certainly the official games get a respectable crowd.

America does have the second most registered football players in the world.  Obviously an unreliable statistic for a multitude of reasons.

Anyway, that was pretty much a career ending mistake from our goalie.  Shame, he's usually quite good.

Also there's the American Football aspect, stealing the name of actual football.
Seriously, those guys rarely use their feet.
