I've been playing and registered there for more than two years now.  And I usually pop in at several intervals through the day so I can ask if any of you all want to play and try and help drum up more interest in go.  Its been going well so far I think, I've seen a couple of you play each other which is a good sign as I read it.

Also, I give you the ultimate tactic, the Nuclear Tesuji.
An excellent way to beat your opponent!

There's only, what, 11 that are legal with a class II license in the US. Too expensive.

Simply bring a vaccuum to remove those unnessecary stones your opponent left carelessly on the board...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

theres some really 'nice' players on kgs

he seemed pretty good for a 30k. but being 30k got him 6 stones to start over me.

If your playing against handicap, whats the best strategy? they already have structure and its difficult for you to create one. I tried to cut him in half but couldnt get enought territory from doing so.

also when should you resign? I was under the impression both players passed if the game was over. You only resigned if you had no chance of gettin any territory and didnt want to see the game through

I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.

He's sort of right in that the game was well and truly over, scorewise, at that stage. That said, the point of playing games at that stage is to learn, and you can learn a lot about life and death, not to mention minor point plays at that stage of the game, so yeah you were right in reporting the prick.

Regarding playing from handicap, yeah, it's tricky. In those situations, you have to play aggressively to make territory, and make sure you keep it. This means playing moves that keep sente (initiative); you have to define the flow of the game. It's not a bad strategy in general, but in handicap games it is vital. Also important is don't throw away stones. In a more even game, you can often get away with throwing the odd stone away as a distraction (either bait or threat); in this case, unless you KNOW it will get you a good return, don't try it.

Finally, don't let numpties like this get you down. For every shitty player, there are a dozen good ones. Just today I played two games against a guy, who resigned a ranked game (while he was ahead no less!) just so we could play out a few interesting life or death battles.

Aye, in a more advanced, professional game:

Quote from: Sensei's Library
In BadHabits, we have already mentioned that you should not wait to resign until the game is about to end. But one should not resign too early either. When suffering a big loss, it is wise not to resign immediately. Continue for several moves until your anger or disappointment has cooled down, and you are able to make a positional judgment. Only if this judgment shows that the game is really lost, is resignation appropriate.

Apparently, professional players apply the latter issue with utmost sincerity. We should not be so hard on each other as demanding our opponent to master the professional's art of resigning.

Generally speaking if you are giving someone a six stone handicap then you should be sufficiently stronger than them that you can take advantage of their mistakes to give you a good chance of winning. That said, I don't think ranks over 20k tend to be that useful, because players can improve so quickly and both players will probably still be making mistakes that can swing the game either way.
