Bay 12 song a-long
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:09:00 pm »

Hi. I'm decent at making digital music. I'd like to have people post some .mp3 or other sound files that they would like included in a song. I don't care what it is, but if it isn't a musicalish sound I'll have to twist and warp it into an instrument. I'd prefer .mp3s under 10 seconds, and the shorter the better. Voices are fine, but I might have to play with it in various synths until it isn't words anymore or sample parts of it.

I'll only use sounds posted in this thread.

Please nothing copyrighted or illegal for me to use or that will get me sued.

Recording yourself is acceptable, whether voice or an instrument you play. Decent quality is preferred but I can probably fix it up or manipulate it into something.

Depending on the number of submissions, I'll try to get to yours.

I can't guarantee you'll recognize your sound afterwards, but I'll show you a copy of what sound I've turned it into and describe the process.

I'll be checking the thread later tonight.

Also, if you paste instrument noises, those would be the easiest to work with and you'd have my thanks for saving me a little work. Like I said though, ANY noise or sound is acceptable.

I haven't tried this before or ever heard of a similar attempt, so we may be pioneers.

At the end, I'll release the fruity loops file and a .zip file with all the sounds I've used so you can plug them in when FL studio requests you to find the missing sounds (because they would be in a different file location). That way it can be continued and you can also take a look at it to find how your sound was used if you know how to use FL.

Also, if you have a sound post it up at depositfiles.com or other fileshare. Other than that PM me for my email address. I'll start a new hotmail account once a person requests to send a file through email, and then post that account here after it's made.

If you can get this somehow, if you have TF2, you should be able to rip it from there.

I also believe THIS would be most amusing to have within it.

Well, I will cause theTF2 theme is badass, but aren't both of those songs copyrighted? I'm not sure on the legalities involved on using samples from them without paying royalties, even if it's just for fun and not money, if published in a public place. Even if the samples are played backwards or chopped up, and run through a digital turntable and with no resemblance to the original song. I know it probably wouldn't get caught normally but they might figure out how to do it in reverse and prove it's their song if I tell how I made it like I planned. Anyone know how the copyright law works in that regard? It's kind of the same thing as a cover band playing live, but kind of not since it uses the exact material, just switched around and chopped up.

Until I know the rules I'll be playing with the TF2 song, and if it's illegal for me to do more than play with it I can always scrap it.

EDIT: Also, I'm not going to be so arrogant as to request Toady for his permission to use DF music until I've got more sounds to work with and only if I've managed to do something that's hopefully cool.

This site pertains to my interests:

Holy cow that website is the SHIT for this, this will be extremely useful.

Check out http://www.freesound.org/ too if you're in need of samples. Awesome site.

Edit: All I have available right now is what's randomly in my dropbox. Most of it is music I made. There's this though: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/80683/MUAHAHRRRRRRRFFFF.mp3

I would like to contribute the greatest sound effect in videogame history. It's a Wav and not an MP3 (If you're using Fruityloops that doesn't really matter, and it's easy enough to convert),  and honestly I have to idea how copyright law applies to it, but it is the most awesome.

Hotlinking error (not allowed). But the name of the effect alone already triggered my memory of what it is, and yes it is.

Here is what I have so far. It needs more instruments and time. Is Valve heartless enough to screw me over if this is illegal even if I'm not selling it? I'm pretty sure this isn't copyright infringement but I'm not a lawyer.

This site functions as a youtube type site, but it will play music files in your browser:
http://www.box.net/shared/gm9g2934vy

Also, anyone know a site I could link to  that will let me put up music like youtube instead of a using file hoster? If not I'll probably start using the site Eagleon used, but I didn't like the fact you have to use it through a program instead of a website.

I thought that grunt noise Eagleon showed me sounded like a zombie when I was playing with it so I tried to add a necromancer speaking backwards and a hero voice at the start. I can try and keep it zombie oriented or just keep switching it depending on what sounds and noises people give me. IF it stays zombie I can do more backwards vocals for more satanic sounding cultist chant stuff.

Also, I can do some things but I don't know how to fix an overloud voice that causes distortion on the mic without re-recording it. I'll have to chop out any vocals that distort from volume.

I used a modified Kefka's laugh but what I enjoy more is the sound of synthesized gorilla sex that I made out of it at 0:13 and I'll replace the other Kefka sounds with a version of that possibly

Boring stuff detailing a small problem I had is spoilered below. It's probably only interesting if you use FL.

Box.net

If you upload a certain filetype, like an MP3, you can play it straight from the shared link.

Here's an example:

Wow, thanks, that's perfect. I changed the link to box.net in the post above.

Also, I'm going to post the modified TF2 theme in the T2 thread to see if the B12 server wants to use it.

EDIT: K. Sheet music is no problem. I took band for one year in middle school and I actually remember what most of the notes represent and fruity loops is sort of a bunch of lines for notes anyways in the form of a vertical piano keyboard. What's your choice of instrument?

Also, one day not too long ago after years and years of using FL I was stunned to realize I could play an instrument live because you can turn a laptop keyboard into a musical keyboard and I can type very fast from years of using the computer. The only thing to adjust for is holding notes since you don't usually do that typing. The plus side to this instrument is it can be any instrument imaginable, and even some without names yet.

Ok. I'm seriously going to bed after I post in the TF2 thread though, I'll have to re-learn any note music I've forgotten tomorrow.

Is .wav or .ogg acceptable? It's all LMMS exports too.
