A single strange mood failed, and your fortress is doomed.

Though I think Legendary Socializers would be immune. Not certain though...

Still, He is a very dangerous person. You should ensure you have the ability to restrain him while keeping him alive. His death would doom your fortress, and he has too many friends to count on his stability. Perhaps you need to deliberately harden him against tragedy...

Start killing off his friends one by one and let them rot in the same room as him. He'll get mad, but as long as you keep the guards out while he calms down, he'll be alright. You then let them in, deliver his punishment, and then let him calm down from that.

Actually, the best way to harden someone to tragedy is to have them work as a butcher for a while.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Apparently the fact that they walk through a waterfall to get into the fortress compensates for the fact that their beloved doctor was just crushed by chert

Even better is to make butchers shop in middle of dining hall. That way, everyone will witness enough death to make them numb.

Turns out the unexpected twist is that no terrible twist brought destruction unto the fortress.

There was a

made of coral that emerged from the depths, but I managed to trap it in the elevated passage leading to the caverns and then drop the entire passage and staircase to kill it
