Metal Beds

It should be possible to construct beds out of metal. Like, prison-style metal bed frames and what not. Dwarves are a hardy lot, I'm sure they can handle a bit of discomfort.

I was actually thinking that cloth or leather should be used to make a bed.

I've already had an iron bed legendary.
Complete with iron spikes and studded with iron.

Yeah. Wooden beds are just non-dwarvish. What dwarf, being sane and healthy, would agree to sleep on an all-wood bed? I think he'd much rather sleep on an all-stone bed with a piece of anything (a roll of cloth?) as a cushion.

I think the challenge of beds only being made of wood is good (i hunt out non wood sites for preferance) I think it would be good to see hammocks though as a way of defining a bedroom/barracks but it would still give dwraves an unhappy thought (Kivish slept in an uncomfortable hammok lately. She fell out of bed during the night lately)

While I don't see why we couldn't have metal beds, I'd settle for at least being able to being able to make hammocks out of woven pigtail cables. Oh, this could be another good reason to implement hemp.

I agree, metal beds would be great to see implemented. At the moment its very restrictive andp there doesn't seem to be any good reason for it.

Dwarves in this game are pansies.
They should be able to sleep on stone beds with a chunk of granite for a pillow, and have some puddingstone for desert!

Bedrolls. It amazes me that the first seven dwarves would bring along an anvil and two axes, but no bedrolls.

I also agree with the concept of using cloth, straw and leather for mattresses, and stone/metal for the actual frames of the beds.

This could work by treating the beds as containers, which could only hold mattresses. It would also make it easier to satisfy noble requirements (platinum beds w/ giant cave spider silk mattresses, anyone?).

I've been suggesting that beds be a two step component item for a while now.
Cloth+wood/metal/stone/glass frame.

(b)uild bed, could select just cloth to make a bedroll on the ground. Or select a prebuilt frame first then one or multiple (up to 10) of cloth to make a full bed. Like building a weapon trap.

A forge, carpenter or mason's shop, glassmaking furnace, would be used to make an actual bedframe. The cloth would be the sheets/soft part.

severe unhappy thoughts from sleeping on ground / long resting time
slight unhappy thoughts of sleeping in bedroll / slightly longer resting time
no effect when sleeping in wood/stone bed / normal resting time
happy thoughts when sleeping in metal/glass frame bed / short resting time

I like this, and also, matress quality should have at least a BIT of influence on the dwarf sleeping on it. I'd assume a masterpiece matress would be very nice to sleep on, giving the dwarf an happy thought and making him sleep better.
