My game of DF crashed suddenly after 7 hours of solid playing (don't look at me like that its my day off). I hadn't saved because I wasn't thinking - I'm shaking with rage right now. Fucking fucking FUCK.

Rage: my idiot boss.

"Oh, hey, Max. I see you have a new baby! Boy, I remember those days, staying up way late with a fussy newborn, sometimes getting no sleep at all. Anyway, let's have you work three close-open shifts in your first two weeks back."

Fuck you, asshole. This is why everyone on the crew is looking for a new job.

Lost two days of work to a snowstorm. Bleh. Spent most of yesterday doing artwork. I don't see how webcomic artists and such have the patience for that.

Jesus, Sanskrit pronouns are unmemorizable. And this chapter doesn't even present all of them!

I swear to god, as soon as my knowledge of the language is up to good reading speed, I'm writing my own textbook. This one should be way too shoddy to be the best on the market, and yet it is.

Not literally, but it's beyond the point of just attributing things to a lack of intelligence alone.

Oh unreliable internet, how I've not missed you. Please, don't make yourself welcome and piss off.
Wouldn't that result in no internet at all?

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'm getting really sick of Kickstarter --> Steam EA devs filling my inbox with requests to spam everyone and everything I know about their game coming off of Early Access.

Dear developers: You knew what you were getting into with EA. You knew you were basically spending the hype early to get some money flowing, and that 70% of people won't give a shit you're calling your game "fully released." So please stop asking me to abuse the principle of communication on your behalf, by spamming the whole world with whatever catch phrase you're telling us to copy paste into emails, steam chat and IMs. You want some marketing done? Fucking pay someone to do some marketing.

I'm having a hard time explaining to a guy why its not a bad thing to fail something in Pathfinder... Not only is he not listening, but he ignoring everything i'm trying to say.

Seriously, just because you practiced as a rogue or ranger or something, doesn't make you awesome at it to begin with. His reaction was that if a rogue can't do EVERYTHING, its a failure... So if its either you're a god or you're a failure, wtf!? Is there any midway? Like MORTAL!?

I've noticed two distinct trends in table top players.

There are players who like the slow-build. They like playing Level 1 characters, they like failing, and getting better, in equal amounts. It's the kind of narrative they enjoy.

The other really just wants to get to the good part quickly. Failure with no real reasonable chance of success isn't fun for them. Being Level 1 and having no abilities or specializations to speak of isn't fun. They liken it to the forced grind of video games where it takes several hours of play to feel appropriately powerful. I don't want to call that narrative power gaming, but it kinda is. They want to be hero heroes, not human-heroes.

I tend to fall in the middle of the two. I definitely like the low level experience, but as my free-time shrinks along with everyone else's, sometimes I just don't have the patience for the slow build.

That said, it's completely impossible to be great at everything as a Rogue until you're like Level 8 or something. And most rogues get that.

*mumbles something about Incursion and the possibility of significant class defining features from level 1*

... which is to say, homebrew. Homebrew like you want to live. Level 1 warrior boring? Stuff in something that makes it not boring. Same for the rest of 'em.
