I'll bring the pitch if you bring the torches.

What book is it? You may be able to do what I did and... acquire an electronic copy. I saved almost $200 that way.

One of my classes requires a book that costs more to rent than all the books for my other class cost to buy new.

My brother's calculus textbook would cost $2000 new.

I'm breathing, blinking and swallowing my saliva manually, there's a crackling sound in my ears when I swallow, I'm looking constantly at my nose, hearing a ringing sound, my whole body is itchy and I feel like somebody is watching me all the time. I also think I forgot something. I've been like this for the past half an hour, and I'm slowly becoming more angry.

Neurological symptoms; the ear stuff indicates an increase in pressure - you had a cold lately? If you did, I suspect the tube in your middle ear regulating the pressure (CBA to look up English name ATM) is blocked by inflammation and the increased ear pressure fucks with your brain, which I know is a thing.

Not a medical professional, mind you.

Amazon won't let me rent this book because my card expires a while after I'd have to return it. I'm not sure how that makes sense.

Time to switch to cheaper and shadier methods.

I always had this ear-crackling thing when swallowing. Swallow right now - can't you hear a VERY short crackling?

It's clearing up, so I suppose I'm fine.

For me, it's vaguely 'crackle-like', but I can tell that it's obviously the sound of my saliva moving around and not actually coming from the ear vicinity.

There's a slight but perceptible shift in the ear, for me at least. Eustachian tube and all that, systems linked and so on.

My ears... do something. I know I once had surgery to get drainage tubes in my ears, which fell out a short time later. But then, I doubt my body works on the same principles as everyone else's.

One of my classes requires a book that costs more to rent than all the books for my other class cost to buy new.

My brother's calculus textbook would cost $2000 new.

Ouch. The books where I work can cost upwards of $200, but not two THOUSAND. Hell, the Peer Mentors who give tours to incoming students every semester flat-out say to get them elsewhere.

My wife is obsessing over the thought of them coming back and hurting her.
See, I never understood this. The whole thing about thieves is that they don't come in when people are around because they don't want to fight. If they came in while you were home, you could probably drive them off with a couch cushion, because 1: they usually don't want to hurt anyone, and 2: there is now a witness who saw them break into a home.

That and robbers don't usually hit the same place twice. All in all, the chances of them coming back and hurting someone is extreeeeeemely low.
Then again, I tend to think a bit more logically than emotionally.
