(they are honestly all dysfunctional.)
Despite what the Sad and Rage threads may make you think, this is not even remotely true.

Only morons use that term.
Did you just call Dutch, Tir, and Ultimuh morons?

Because I only agree with a fraction of that.

It doesn't count if you are talking about someone else using that term. :P

Mmh.  There's a certain lack of understanding towards their kids that comes with your typical parent, but usually its kept to a level where it doesn't really MATTER unless you don't have friends who aren't your parents.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

You guys are lucky, then or I have inexplicably been surrounded by other people with dysfunctional families and skipped over all the functional ones.

I have yet to see a family that wasn't completely screwed up in one way or another.

Might be a socio-economic thing - what's your family's background?

Ok, talked with my friend. They didn't really understand the term/had never used it. They just thought it was an amusing thing to say at the end of a discussion? Anyways, they'll never use it again at this rate, and all is well. I explained some of the conotation behind it, how it is often used as a "I don't care about your opinion, I'm better than you" and all that, then finished off by linking her the xkcd comic (which I am pleased to note has been linked in this thread already).

@smeeprocket
I like to think that my immediate family (wife and kids) aren't all that screwed up. I try to spend time with my kids and listen to them (oldest is 5). My goal is to not brush them off and do my best to understand them.

The only really dysfunctional families I have encountered in my life are those of my foster-siblings (not quite sure how to phrase that).

I mean, some of them are a lot more than just dysfunctional (father in jail for what he did to his kids, mother later marries a convicted murderer, that kind of stuff) but that's sort of a given if your kinds are in foster care, I guess.

middle class, I would say leaning towards upper. I've known mostly upper middle class to lower class people. No one really ridiculously rich or anything.

That's a very relative thing, man.

Well, I'm destitute now, so ridiculously rich is, yes, relative. But I am thinking a yacht or three and a couple of houses minimum to be ridiculously rich.

Apparently I judge wealth based on the number of yachts one has.

Destitute is also relative. Many of us, including myself, have been without a computer to post on the internet, a home, food, clean water, a safe place to sleep at all (living on the streets of a big city is dangerous,) etc. I'm richer now than I've ever been, in a decent apartment, with a job that pays more than $10/hr, wife and I have two cars, getting ready for my second kid, but it's still a struggle financially.
