My favorite telemarketer incident was the time one called my dad, to whom he replied "Get a life!", to which the telemarketer replied with the same thing.

I usually let them talk for a few moments, before either (a) plonking the phone down on the bench and going to do something else while the telemarketer talks to empty space, or (b) telling them that I want the opposite of what they're advertising. For example, I once had a woman call saying that we needed to get our heat pump cleaned out or fungus would start growing everywhere. I told her that I actually really liked fungus and to respect my life choices. Fun times were had all round.

I just had a brief argument with my mother in which even my brother sided with me, but my mother still didn't budge because she loves using "You are the child therefore I'm right" logic.

*brother interrupts, Mom and him have an unrelated mini-conversation while I patiently refrain from shouting "SHUT THE FUCK UP WHILE I'M TALKING"*

IronTomato: I was about to say that you don't need to keep saying that and nothing else when I get home from school, because if I have homework then I'll do it.
Mom: I know that, but you don't need to start getting pissed off and yell at me just because I tried to talk to you!
IronTomato: *I lose my temper, start to raise my voice* Holy crap, I'm not angry because you tried to talk to me, I'm angry because you're asking me the same question every day like I'm not going to do my homework if you don't constantly ask me about it instead of saying hello!

I can't remember what was said after that point because I was too angry to pay attention, but it was basically just my brother repeating what I had said and then my mother responding in the same way before berating us for telling her how to do her job.

It would be awfully nice if there was someone in this family besides me and my father who understood that if you manage to make someone mad enough to start yelling at you then you should probably consider why they are mad before telling yourself that it's all their fault and ignoring them.

My mother is an asshole, and me and my brother were both destined to become assholes, which is exactly what happened. Perfect.

On the other hand, I now understand that it's still possible to want to kill yourself no matter how much you think you'll never want to. You learn something new every day, huh?

I don't even know how I didn't say a single word, at least five rebuttals came to mind, but they all ended up with me coming out and it's my personal opinion that none of that is her damn business.

In NZ, nobody who actually wants to sell something uses telemarketing or door-to-door sales. We hate that crap. The ones that do are 99.99% scams. In other words, they should be thankful I can't be arsed reporting them for scamminess.

I have never been by a telemarketer unless I signed up for a free month of something and they ask me if I want to pay for more.

I've never said yes but it always takes me ages to make them know I'm not interested because I just can't say no :<

... yeah. Most of the phone based stuff we get around here are either politicians or fraud/scam related. Have had one set of tremendous fuckwads coming out of jamaica that's been criminally harassing this house for something like three fucking years. Most of the other ones that aren't those particular bastards are various flavors of scam.

And yeah, screw the whorespawn that are targeting the elderly in an attempt to steal money from them. People with shitty jobs I can emphasize with, and try to be polite to as I hang up on. These scum sucking pieces of filth? Not so much.
