Ah. So that's why the solution isn't as simple as telling them all to go fuck themselves.

Well, that's still honestly an option. But probably not in the mind of your spouse.

Marriage, basically.
Which is why it's such a complicated issue that I only have partial control over.
Forgive my frankness, but - why'd you marry a nutjob?

You must not have been to many weddings. You're not just marrying her. You're marrying her whole crazy family too.

Seeing as how all people in that house except for him are crazy, and his wife presumably is among them, my question still stands...

Because it's still better than the physical abuse from my biological family.
That's... pretty much 80% of it.

It's one of those situations where this was the least shitty of many shitty options. In which case it is very understandable that it's not ideal and can lead to rage, but in the end is still better than what came before.

Hopefully your road toward happiness leads to fewer and fewer shitty choices in the future, mastah. :(

Damn, Mastah's rage is waaaaay more justified than my own rage.

All I did was buy the eighth and second book in a series instead of the first because the people who stuck labels on them covered up "Eighth book in the series."

My condolences, man.

This. Also look for something along the lines of "A [character name] novel", which is usually a good indication that the novel in question is a sequel to something.

You would think that, I normally think that too.  Checked the back and the front, missed the 5 point font that said "Eighth book of the Runelords" because it was hidden in the foreword or something.  There wasn't a list in my copy oddly enough.  And they decided the back was for fifteen reviews and about a three sentence paragraph instead of its prequels.

Oh well, hopefully it's a good series and I'll get to that book eventually.

This is sort of what tipped me off.  The summary on the back (which I normally don't read with new series because I like not knowing what's ahead) had something about "Based around two of his famous characters!" on it that I barely noticed in a glance.  Confused, this ended up in me searching through the book whilst in the middle drive-thru of a McDonalds, wondering what the hell I just bought.

Alternate Mastah plan:

1) Acquire debit card.
2) Give housemates nothing, ever. Do not buy them anything, including food, password lock everything.
3) Retort to complaints with, "If you don't like it, get a job or leave." Repeat until one condition is met.
4) Should theft or violence arise, have the police handle the problem. Write down serial numbers on everything before instituting the plan.
5) One way or another, they're no longer walking all over you.

Yes, it's cruel, but sometimes you have to be, despite what customer service training does to you.

On books, I recently encountered something most annoying.

One of the series I read stopped putting "Book X of the Y chronicles" on their cover around book 12 apparently. The problem is that they then don't include any sort of book list or other form of numbering anywhere on the book. The only other piece of information you get is the brief preview of the next book at the end.

End result: I keep running into the books at used book stores and can't tell if I should buy them or not without actually looking up the series on my phone. :-\

Also yeah, that sucks mastahcheese.

Now, after them refusing to talk to me for a couple hours, I tried to send them a text, because I know that if I didn't, I'd get yelled at for it later.
Rather than responding, they come to the library to complain to me in person, and tell me that me being here is equivalent to me "abandoning" them.
Now they're heading to the local video store on their own (which is clearly so fucking horrible, seeing as it's the first time they've left the apartment in 3 days) to rent more videos because they watched all the ones they already rented.

Also, now they're guilting me with "why do you even bother staying, then".

I'm about to fucking ask them that one myself.

Well, now they're trying to claim that they "only wanted 5 minutes!" (Which is the same lie they've told me a hundred times over), and to go ahead and enjoy my alone time.

I'm not messaging them back.
