No tobacco ads here either. The only cigarette ad I've ever witnessed was a really poorly made one over the radio. The anti-smoking commercials that air on TV every five seconds are equally poorly made, though.

Tobacco advertisements are completely forbidden in Belgium, and all cigarette packs have images of blackened lungs on them.
Mm... and how common are smokers in Belgium's media? The lung killer corps get shifty when confronted with blocks like that. From direct advertisement to product placement, et al.

Though we still get ads for that sort of thing in the US. Not necessarily on TV (or at least I haven't noticed any lately, in the area I'm in -- which isn't saying much, because I only see TV in passing), but there's pleeeenty other sources. And whatever the rules are, they seem somewhat less strict on non-cigarette tobacco products.

Smoking is actually pretty uncommon in Belgian media I think. Mind you, I don't watch much TV and only a small part of those are local productions, but I THINK that the local soaps don't contain any smokers.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

No no no.

You see, that EXACTLY is what tobacco megacorporations wants you to believe.

It's all part of an intricate plan.

Those images have collector value.

My roommate is training for his new job. Yesterday durning a break, one of his coworkers had a video pulled up on his phone of a black trans woman getting beaten up and was showing it around for laughs.

No, but I'm down to my last clean set of clothes and I was supposed to get my laundry done today so the family can work on it later tonight while I'm at work :<

On that note I actually like the fact that the argument over tobacco product advertisement has died down enough in the US that you actually get thematically appropriate smoking in media. I mean, it used to be that it showed up everywhere because the tobacco companies were paying all the media creators, then it didn't show up at all because of the backlash against that, but now you can see it in places where it fits (such as detective films, for example) because that's where it fits the tone, not because of any argument for or against tobacco (complete with the "Nobody has recieved compensation" note at the end).

Vaguely related to the derail, a friend of mine said that one of the guys he knows had about a pound of cocaine in his pack today and was trying to sell some to him.

People will do very stupid things for money...
