It would piss me off more if it has actually affected me once.

I guess we could go with the Pentagon. Or Scotland Yard.

.....I pickpocketed a key first.

After that, everyone assume you're on official business, so it's easy going :P
If you look confident, most people won't ask what you're doing, and just assume you're on some business.

Of course, I doubt this'd work in the FBI HQ or something (if such a building even exists).

You'd probably need a very authoritative clipboard for that

My younger one started kindergarten this year, and it's a nightmare.  This 5 year old kid is still overwhelmed by the very concept of school and the change it represents in his life, but they're expecting him to learn the entire alphabet (upper and lower case), write all letters and numbers neatly, independently read and write vocabulary words, understand how to spell words he doesn't know by sounding them out, and do basic addition problems as his learning goal for the end of the first nine weeks.  What the fuck is this shit?!  This is more than I was expected to be capable of halfway through first grade!  He's had hours of homework every fucking night since the 2nd day, and very quickly decided he hates school.  I want to know what the (&#W@$%)(#$)%* these people are thinking.

I'm pretty sure my Kindergarten consisted mostly of coloring, singing songs, stories, and taking naps.  I don't think homework was a thing at all.

Kindergarten morphed from a way to gradually acclimatize your kid to other children and a structured non-home environment...to some kind of fuckin' crazy child prep school.

I'm not sure how I feel about New Kindergarten. I was among the last students of Old Kindergarten, but I don't know. Part of me sympathizes that young children should have easier lives, but the other part says you have to get them used to the stress at some point, might as well start immediately, and it's a disservice to do otherwise. Personally, I found my Kindergarten experience rather wasteful.

All I remember of kindergarten was plush building blocks in the playground, the delicious pita bread rolls my mother would pack for me to eat, and the disturbingly pleasant smell of cleaning products in the nap room. At least I think that was kindy, I might be mixing it together with pre-school... I used to be able to remember just where one ended and the other began, but now it's hazy. :-\
I know in pre-school this kid named Curtis bullied me, but that's about it. Damn you, Curtis.

He's learning the sodding alphabet at age five? What the hell kind of slow-ass education system do you even have?

To be honest, that's what I thought- I was just too polite to say so. >.>

Yeah. Politeness isn't my strong point.

I learned the alphabet when I was like three from letter-shaped magnets on the kitchen fridge.

Good times.

Never.

Yoink, however, is the epitome of Canadian politeness. Usually. :P

Unless you send your kid to pre-school, which is not required and didn't work out for us, Kindergarten is the first year of school for a kid in the U.S.  I know that many other country's education systems start earlier, but I'd be very surprised if it isn't a universal to start out with a focus on acclimation - not jump straight into cramming.

And the stuff I listed isn't his goals for the first year.  It's for the first nine weeks of his first year.

And it's not just learning the alphabet.  He's supposed to be able to neatly write and recite the entire thing, capital and lower case, and understand how to spell words he doesn't know.

I'm fairly sure my parents had taught me the alphabet (and included song) by the time I was in Kindergarten.
