I've tried the damn necroa virus so much I've gained a passionate hatred for new zealand. I think I'm gonna just try and find something else to do tonight before I punch a hole through a wall.

Seriously, fuck New Zealand. I don't even know where the fuck old zealand is.

Get the upgrade that lets you move hordes through seas quickly, along with a decent-sized boost to the horde size. This way if anything in the entire fucking Oceania tries to fuck with you, you can send in some less-than-alive gentlemen from the country next door.

"Game design experts." Don't get me wrong - I love that games are getting legitimate enough that people are getting an academic interest in them. All this knowledge and terminology can be used to have great discussions about games and think about them a lot more, but for some reason most people use it as an excuse to think about a game less.

I can't count the number of times I've seen something described as "contradicting basic game design" when it was something that worked well in that game. The game should be an example of an exception of the rule and how to break rules when it's better for your game, but instead it's bad because it doesn't follow them.

No art rule is set in stone. Look at Picasso.

What is "basic game design", anyway? With so many different genres around, what constituents the iconic "basic game"? Is it chess? Or is it poker?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's, in some form or fashion, game design broken down to the simple and excruciatingly simplifying something I'm not an expert in and will never claim to be in expert in.

In a whole, I see it as something to take basic notes on. When to give points, how much points, what should tree punching reward, should you have powerups and if so, how many and what do they do? If someone doesn't follow it, so be it, however there's always some fundamental sameness in games.

That is my two cents anyway :3

EDIT: I put skinner box as an example. No insults are to be implied :3

I just now realized what that could imply.

Not insinuating all games are simply pull lever = reward.

Basic game design tends to be "whatever the game designer I'm parroting says most often". Though there are game design classes now, so I guess a few people have probably put together some basics to teach people? Literally Game Design 101.

Eh.

As I said before, I gave my two cents on it, despite how ill informed it is.

Though, yeah, that probably is more believable than me :)

Oh, I wasn't trying to contradict you. I haven't seen any of these game design classes/textbooks so I was just kind of musing about them.

Have to take dog in for surgery to remove not-so-benign growth on her paw.

Until then, we have to keep her from chewing on it.

Augh.

Substitute food pellets with fun and elecrtic shocks with ‼FUN‼. The lever is a metaphor for levers.
