Seriously? When I went the most exciting thing was a camp counselor standing on a hill in a thunderstorm with his arms held high, screaming "I WILL SAVE THE CAMP!".

Did he succeed?

No, unfortunately he did not get struck by lightning.

I went to one of those Christian summer camp things once, ended up leaving on the third day because I had... I think it was roughly 185 bug bites on my body (there was a nest of tiny white spiders living inside the metal poles of a sort of tent-like structure they had the guys sleeping in.  Apparently all the spiders thought I was delicious).

Eleven year-old Karkov who did not like the outdoors was unamused.

That's pretty bad - but we had at least one black widow in a tent I was in. I think it was me or my tentmate who saw it, and my dad (he was a leader) got it out, cut off its head, and showed us the distinctive pattern.

I got roped into an all-male Christian summer camp too.

Can't say it was horrible though, other than the proselytizing. They turned us loose in like 8 acres of woods to play M&M wars over the course of a whole day. Was pretty fun.

M&M wars? As in... throwing M&Ms at each other, in some chocolatey facsimile of dodgeball?

We have a glorious creature known simply as a sac spider. It likes to live in caves and other dark, enclosed spaces, will happily move into the sleeping bags of unwary hikers, is aggressive (i.e. it will bite you if you roll on it after it infiltrates your bag), and its bite causes localised necrosis.
I sometimes wonder why I still like hiking, especially since we also get the things you 'Murricans call black widows and brown recluses.

Hm. I've only ever been to C.C.F camp (Combined Cadet Force) over the summer. That was both exhausting (Lots of marching, walking, and obstacle courses) and sometimes fun (Making a hut out of things found in a wood.)

First solidly hot week of the year (mid-to-upper 90s all week), and yesterday evening the air conditioner unit said "lolnope" and went to the great scrapheap in the Beyond.

Thankfully, I tolerate heat well. Still....fuck this shit. Get me some damn air.

It's 22 degrees Celsius here. That's pretty warm to me. I suppose you're talking hotter, though?
