Yesterday I saw a Google ad I had never seen before, advertising 'crawlspace plastic lining' services.

My brother-in-law, on the same wifi network (same IP address) had just received, but hadn't even read, an e-mail for a realtor who mentioned that before out house could be sold, the crawlspace would need to be lined with plastic.

Information from his private e-mail ended up splashed on my screen, he never uses my computer, there are no cookies, etc. in common. That's a HUGE privacy violation, which I find disgusting.

Because I asked him if it was in his e-mail, when he talked about it with my sister later, and I know he uses g-mail, while the rest of the family uses Hotmail/Outlook.

oh, it was google

is there anything to be surprised by though?

as knit tie's father said, anything that goes on the internet is public domain, but even ignoring that it's not like it's a free service - you pay by handing away your privacy to the corporate overlords

i'd like to run a donation-powered email service at some point but i'm already snickering at the idea of anyone actually donating to it (or even using it)

I watched Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies yesterday because my brother and father thought it would be good and it was terrible.
For some fucking reason the entire movie was literally desaturated. Not white and black, just desaturated a bit, which made it look like shit. There's no buildup to any sort of climax, and there's 2 other historical figures shoehorned in. At a certain point in the movie everyone starts dieing without a particular reason. Abraham gives "inspirational" speeches all around, most of which are shit.
At the end after they stop the zombie infection from spreading by first sitting in a fort for three days so the infection can happily spread further, then killing zombies in the nearby village and then blowing up the fort, the movie isn't even over. You get a very hamfisted, shitty, drama-y epilogue that drags on far too long.
Just ugh.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies? That's a thing? And I thought Abraham Lincoln the Vampirte Hunter was a bad idea.

No what I said was that the American GOVERNMENT doesn't listen to the bay12 community because we aren't....oh.

I get the joke now.

Re: Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies

Welcome to the entertaining world of Mockbusters. :P There's a company called The Asylum that specializes entirely in making incredibly shitty movies with titles close enough to actual popular movies that people pick them up by mistake, thinking they're getting the other one. This is actually their business plan.

Includes such gems as:
Snakes on a Train
Transmorphers: Fall of Man
The Da Vinci Treasure
AVH: Alien vs. Hunter
The Day the Earth Stopped

There's a full list on their wiki page including which movies they're ripping off.

The local video rental store (back when it was still open, anyway) had tons of those, along with some low-budget porn version of Pirates of the Caribbean. Just sitting on the shelf :P

Actually, I've heard of (Never seen, though, but some people I know were talking about it. Sad, right?) of that Pirate one. Apparently it had a big budget for what it is.

'back when they were still open'

Doesn't sound like they are still there anymore.

Bingo. They closed down years ago, back when Netflix, hulu, and Redbox were just hitting their stride.

Apparently they did make this shitpile of a film.
Apparently they also made Atlantic Rim, which my best friend claimed to be exactly like Pacific Rim except somewhere else and with a different ending (I tease him because he hasn't seen Pacific Rim).
