@BlackFlyme: How, just how do you cope with that without losing your mind?! You have my sympathies, of course- I wish I could do something more to get you out of that awful situation, but sadly I cannot. Just... hang in there, man.

Same way I cope with everything: suppression.

I prefer repression. That way when it comes back out later it's a surprise.
[/flippancy]

My sympathies, BlackFlyme. :/

Why is Firefox suddenly Chrome?
I use a custom complete theme for Firefox. This is the first time I'm hearing about a redesign, because otherwise I wouldn't have noticed.

Why is Firefox suddenly Chrome?
Because no one has a sense of reasonable UI anymore, except possibly SeaMonkey (which I've only heard of, haven't checked to see if it still counts) and Gmail (which would be difficult to screw up, but they're in the same company as youtube...) Someone needs to get on with making tablets not the newest thing to focus on already so people stop thinking they have better ui ideas that look suspiciously touchable.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting a version or two back in firefox and it looks normal.

Wait what?
Why do people like clunky toolbars?
The main reason I use Chrome is because Firefox loos clunky, which infuriates me.

I like Safari better than Chrome or IE. Mostly because making bookmarks is really easy and I like the word correction. I've never used Firefox.

There is a difference between actual design and shoving everything possible out of the way into a menu that hides on the far right because you thought it was a good idea. Here's my current firefox 27. Heres a picture from ff29.

I fucking hate it when people talk to me when I'm reading.
I mean, if they have something important to say, sure. Or maybe if they're someone I actually cared to talk to.
But just coming up and talking to me for no good reason when I'm clearly engrossed in a book makes me very, very angry.

I just wish I lived somewhere where I could have some damn privacy.

There is every need.

Do you know how often I get to read a book? Not very.

Do you know how long it takes for me to get engrossed IN the book? A good half-hour to an hour.

Some dude coming up to make small-talk and chit-chat and take me out of the book will get a sharp tongue and a glare until people learn to stop. being. dicks.

Not everyone reads a book because they have nothing better to do and are craving company!

Yeah, all of that.
It usually breaks my concentration when someone interrupts me, which is especially annoying when it's a really good book.
As it is, I have enough trouble keeping any background noises from distracting me, and it's already hard to concentrate without a nice, comfortable place to sit and read. Another reason I need to move, I suppose...

It's a similar thing (although less serious) when I go to watch a movie with friends, and they turn out to be more interested in cracking jokes and talking over the dialogue... Yeesh. I'm glad most of my few friends aren't like that. Anyway. Back to my book. :P

Why does everyone think that all basic options should be shoved in a drop down menu as icons, and all advanced options should be made inaccessible short of an unholy blend of witchcraft and prayer? Because it's easily the most annoying UI trend I've ever seen, to the extent where I like SQLite's terminal interface better than Access 2010's interface.

I fucking hate it when people talk to me when I'm reading.

If people ask me what I'm reading, I just say "A book", in as flat a tone as possible. If they ask further, I say "An interesting book".

Family and people I like sometimes manage a free pass.

If it was someone I liked and actually enjoyed talking to, I'd probably at least give them a brief sentence of description.
Then I'd go back to reading before getting dumped completely out of the zone.

... from what I remember, my general pattern was to just hold the book up and point. Maybe show 'em the back/summary bit.

Sometimes I wouldn't even bother to stop reading. Just angle it so they could see the back cover and gesture, making non-committal non-words. Busy reading, call back later.

It's been a while since I've actually read print in public, though. Nowadays it's mostly people getting confused as to what I'm doing on the computer when I'm reading fanfiction or somethin' that's been decently colorized for readability. It's vaguely amazing how many people confuse white text on a black background (FF.N's default color swap -- I prefer grey on dark blue, but that takes a little more effort to get working) for coding.

The free pass gets them a look at the cover and maybe a brief synopsis if it's a particularly easily summarised book.
