It's nature. Proportions of wolves as compared to deer will rise and fall, dependent on each other.
Or you could kill them with traps and hunts, in which case the deer population will fall dependent on the efforts of man and how hungry he is for venison.
British people must be indoctrinated early into the rabidly hating wolves for no reason spiel..
You are wearing blinders if you can't see every single point that's been brought up against wolf introduction.
An unscientific viewpoint based on centuries of propaganda and societal reinforcement does equate to indoctrination. Wolves are a benefit to ecology. That is science.
1. The needs of man are above the needs of animals. There isn't that much land available in Britain that isn't being used by humans, the best there is are the desolate mountains or the sparesely populated countryside. Humans take priority, the planet isn't a nature reserve. Coexisting with a habitat is not only necessary, but the only way to preserve the British ecosystem. Again, Yellowstone park is larger than London. Britain does not have the luxury of space that it can proudly set aside vast swathes of land to appease wolf lovers.
2. Centuries of wolves attacking people. They were exterminated because they ate not just everyone's livestock, but also the people. The island is god damn tiny. I joke about wolves being inable to exist with humans in such a small place because they are both apex predators and highly territorial, but that is kinda true. Both want to protect their young and their food sources, humans were better at it. Wolves have in history had burgeoning populations in the UK, and guess what? Humans and flocks were attacked in droves.
Believing wolves, deer and others are nuisances because you've got too many people rammed into the animal's habitats is not science. That is overpopulation and blaming the ecology for British mismanagement of resources. Next they'll remove every tree in the UK because some people hit them while driving because they're nuisances.
3. Britain has a declining birth rate, overpopulation is only really the crux of the issue with general humanity, Africa, India, China and North America.
4. Well done on being as snarky as possible, I'm sure you're going to get plenty of good debate by immediately talking down to all the lesser plebs holding their barbaric, backwards views. I joke, but I don't see you joke. Of course, science is only the domain of those as ethically conscious as you, why, the British must be pouring mercury into the rivers and blowing up fish just for fun. Funnily enough, whilst not burning down forests for Brits and giggles, trees ARE removed from roads so people don't hit them, this is done
by humanity fucking everywhere. Lastly dying is not a nusiance, it is death.
5.
Population density maps of Britain vs USA. In the USA there are areas far larger than the size of Britain that are mostly barren of human touch. Britain doesn't even have counties devoid of life. Could probably get away with flooding Scotland with wolves, though I'm not sure why you'd want to just make lives for the Scots even worse.
It isn't possible to introduce wolves without frequent interactions between wolves and humans.
6. There are maybe around 2 million deers in the UK, by rspca estimates.
There are 4 million pigs.
10 million cattle.
14 million sheep.
63 million people.
As soon as they discover there's more than deer abound, they will follow the example of their historic ancestors. It won't take long.
