Micro$ Word is an horrid piece of software that came straight from hell.
Sections break... WHY DEAR GOD, WHY.
Learn how to use TeX or LaTeX. It will be so worth it, I promise.

Real men use emacs.
Real men carve what they want to write into their own body, then cut it out and mail that part of the body to the recipient.
How fucking metal would that be? "Hey, professor, I finished my essay. I carved it into my chest. All 1000 words. Wanna read it?"

"Don't say that, don't touch there/ Don't be nasty says the silly bear!"

If you're that fussy about the way your documents look, I'd recommend LaTeX, available through CTAN.

EDIT: where did you come from, mcfry D:

In this house, there lives:
Two people who are hard of hearing (my parents)
Two people who are hypersensitive to noise (my sister and I)

Our idea of reasonable volume: Too quiet for them to make out any words or detail of sound while sitting 5 feet away.
Their idea of reasonable volume: Loud enough to wake us from a deep sleep from the opposite end of the house, or trigger the fight-or-flight response if I'm in the same room.

...It wouldn't be so bad if watching TV until 2 in the morning wasn't literally their only hobby. Asking them to refrain from doing so is interpreted as bullying/trying to ruin their lives by taking away the one thing they enjoy.

Moving out would be nice but not currently financially viable.

As someone who's also bothered by noise: get headphones.  Not those wimpy noise canceling headphones, those big thick ones that people wear when they're operating heavy machinery or going to a shooting range.  The ones that physically block noise.

...Earmuffs? :P

I knew someone was going to correct me on this.

Whenever I call them earmuffs in real life people think I mean the fuzzy things designed to keep your ears warm.  So I switched to the technically incorrect word that is more common.

Don't worry man, you can use the correct term with me.
I think 'earmuffs' as weird ear-warming things is an American thing...
At least that's what I gleaned from my childhood love of Mad magazine.

We actually have some of those. Trouble is they're kind of difficult to sleep in. :P

As someone who's partially deaf myself, oddly enough it actually makes me rather wary of loud noises.
I think it's because I can't tell how loud something is, so I always worry that whatever I'm doing is too loud and will disturb others. Perhaps I was already somewhat adverse to loud noise before losing my hearing, but I don't remember.

The one time I tried that I happily slept through my alarm while it ran loudly for a half hour, probably annoying the shit out of everyone else in the dorm.  Haven't risked it again.

I believe at that point they're referred to as ear defenders.
