It's to cover all the added security to prevent losing shipments to drop bears.

Even with all that, they still have an 80% attrition rate.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I hear even their Steam games have to deal with digital drop bears that haunt the tubes.

No, see they have IP vipers that actually crawl inside the fiber-optic cables and gorge themselves on data packets. Also, their web servers have real spiders in them.

It doesn't help that half of our IT techs are actually kangaroos.

Actual rage: I CAN'T SLEEP URGH AND I NEED TO DO STUFF TOMORROW
Seriously, sometimes I wish I had some sort of sleep medication. Lying around awake for hours is total bullshit. This bug really needs to be patched out.

Read a book an hour before you sleep and avoid electronics like the plague. They overstimulate your brain and keep you awake.

I hadn't heard the book tip. Interesting.
How much of the book do I have to read for it to be effective, though? :P Trying to marathon it could quite likely end up with me still awake at noon the next day, assuming it was a gripping read.

I know the best, real way to improve one's sleep is to have a sleeping schedule, but that's hard and occasionally impossible to keep up. There are few things more frustrating than being unable to sleep.

I want to take a nap.

My dad then tells me that if he catches me napping, he'll have me raking pine straw because...?

Gaaah.

Now I'm just sitting here, groggily typing this, hoping I don't fall asleep at my desk ::)

What? Since when is napping considered a bad thing?
I hope that straw actually needs raking and that he isn't just making up a punishment, because that would be bizarre.

This right here is great advice. I always read in bed. I probably read too much in bed, but it's not like my parents are able to complain about me reading too much.

I reckon it's the other way around; he has a task that needs doing but needs to make up a reason for someone to do it.

Well, that would be more understandable.

Perhaps I'll have to get a reading lamp to set up over my bed.
I need better reading light in this house anyway... I read far too little these days, mainly due to not having any good places to read apart from sitting on the can.

Not really.

Pine Straw is a year round thing and after a while it gets to the point where we all go to get it packed up for composting and such.

The only thing is that we just did that earlier this year(Around the end of march, beginning of april).

Past that, he usually uses yard work as punishment for some things anyways.

Hm, didn't see this question. You just have to read a little bit, generally just enough to immerse yourself and calm down. I always read an hour or so.
