It seems rather cruel; if I were the size of a spider to you, and looked equally disgusting, would you crush me?

Depends. Did you enter my house uninvited, hang out in places you're not wanted, startle and surprise me and touch me?

You're goddamn right I would. I'd put the boots to you heavy-style.
But...but...what if he would not know he is uninvited? What if your dwelling would appear on site generations of his ancestors lived on? What if you would be to big for him to realize your warm hand is attached to your body which in turn is a living, thinking organism?

Oh nenjin, why are you so cruel to our spider-kin?  :'(

Probably to underline his point.

And yes, thank you penguinofhonour.

Now, instead of using a lengthy argument, I can simply show that to people :P

Let me put it this way. When you move a curtain aside, and a spider the size of your palm leaps at your face, I dare you not to react instinctually.

Also, LW, well played. If ever there was a Godwin move in the spider debate, that would be it.

I think you all need a musical lesson.

"Oh lawd, thank you for playing a hippie video. Now I know I'm wrong and I'll go hug twelve trees and play my guitar so Mother Nature forgives me."

Please. Life can be life as long as it stays out of my fucking house. That's why we put up walls in the first goddamn place.

No, why we put up walls was to protect ourselves from weather and dangerous predators.

Spiders are neither of these, not to us.

If it's a question of "Get the hell out of my house," put it in a jar as the video says. I don't see any reason other than squeamishness that you shouldn't, really. It's not a "hippy song," rather a food-for-thought one. If you don't mind them so long as they aren't in your house, then just put them outside your house.

Indeed. The hippy option in life is to roll over to fear, to deny the spider because it is alien. To coexist with it and to allow its survival is to know enlightenment.

Spiders are neither of these, not to us.

Predators? No. Dangerous? Can be. Recluses can do disproportionate damage to us.

As far as I'm concerned, spiders in my house are pests and get dealt with as such. So any witnesses can take the tale back to their thousands of family members about what parts of the house get you killed if you're seen in them.

I spent the better part of 15 years living in a house that nature owned. Scorpions in my fucking shoes and clothes, spiders behind the curtains, centipedes, millipedes, rattlers in my back yard, water moccasins in my creek, the works. I didn't have a choice then. I do now. And I choose exterminatus.

Just make sure not to call in the Salamanders as exterminators.

Ha ha ha. There is no forgiveness in Mother Nature. Only roots. Long, spiky, invasive roots.

Music only makes them grow longer.
