2 hours a day can be overdoing it as well; you can get by generally ok with 21/2 hours of exercise a week.

Maybe to maintain. If you want to lose fat you need to push it. I'm also assuming that the person isn't going to have the willpower to restrict his diet as much as he needs to. Also I'm assuming the obese person won't be able to work out very hard until his health improves, so with less-strenuous exercise you need to do it longer to achieve the right benefit.

There are people who genuinely have great difficulty losing weight though. Conditions such as hypothyroidism can make it much more difficult for people to regulate their own body weight.

This in particular annoys me because my grandmother was one of the most active people I know, exercising every single day and refusing to drive or take the bus anywhere unless it was necessary, and she would rarely have anything other than home cooked meals. But she had always had difficulty maintaining her own weight.

The percentage of obese people who actually have a thyroid problem is vanishingly small compared to the percentage who are just fat.

I'm overweight and I don't work on it nearly as much as I know I should, but I stop far short of deluding myself that it's not a problem.

I love Fridays. Especially since my upstairs neighbors always decide to play music louder than it has any right to be. Look, I love a thumping beat just as much as anyone, but there is no reason it should be that loud. Aren't you in pain? Are your ears bleeding?

Some of them literally try to re-write the reality of the situation. Being fat is not a good thing. Being fat is a health problem that should be fixed. There's no such thing as being healthy and being fat. Every professional will tell you this, and they aren't out on a "crusade" to "oppress" your "people". I've both lost and gained large amounts of weight a few times, and I can tell you with personal certainty as well that there is nothing good about the fat side of that equation.

You're dealing with beings made of irrationality and hate.

Certainly explains the large amounts of both on display.

Judging by my recent experiences, by not having chronically inflamed stomach.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

Pretty much the same for me.
I mean I'm buying one month tickets for the nearest indoor swimming pool and I do go there regularely, although not as much as I'd like since I'm a bit swamped with work right now (which makes a convenient excuse) and swim until my legs feel shaky.

Feeling entitled to special rights just because you're fat is rather silly. And yes, I count myself to the "b-but it's genetic!"-camp as well, being surrounded by 3-4 friends living of fast food and never gaining any weigth.
However if I worked out more regularely and and could stick to a more healthy diet, I could be able to achieve it too.
