Sounds like that shelf will eventually get sweet revenge.
The shelf hits the human ♂ in the arm, shattering the bone!
THE HUMAN ♂ HAS PASSED OUT FROM PAIN

(not played DF in a while. I KNOW it's different, but I can't remember what it is)

The spinning shelf corpse strikes the Craftsman in the leg, shattering the bone!
The Craftsman gives in to pain!

Because there is no way it can sustain all the crap sitting on it when it is basically a piece of plywood nailed to four 2x4s.

I think in Dwarf Fortress it would be referred to as a X plywood shelf X.

XXPlywood CabinetXX

Does it have combustibles in it?

No, just boxes of useless junk. So much useless junk.

Why do we need 200+ coat hangers? Or a dozen standing lamps? We don't need them, but my mom wants to keep them.

Knowing this guy, probably a bunch of oily rags, matchbooks, half-empty plastic lighters, leaky rusted kerosene canisters, dented lamp oil tins, jugs of bleach and ammonia, wooden crates of scrap metal, and shoeboxes full of iron oxide and aluminum filings.

I have no idea. I know he doesn't care much about the shelves. He just sort of slapped them together. He even said he only wanted something to keep the stuff off the floor. But the only thing keeping in each leg is two screws, and the plywood on a few of the shelves look pretty strained.

I know that if my dad or my grandfather saw his work, they would be freaking out.

I forsee the shelf's inevitable retribution clearly. Seriously, hammering stuff into a flimsy plywood construction will just make it fall apart sooner or later.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Why do I bother showing up on time when, on days like today, I will be waiting 5+ hours for my next load to show up?

I have 190 miles to drive to get here. The other guy almost that far. Yet today I show up and, according to my dispatcher, the other guy hadn't even left yet. I've been here 3 hours now! My clock is ticking down and I still have to drive back!

Get home today and suddenly my browser's forgot all its settings and extensions, so I have to waste time reinstalling them. Thank god I don't rely on keeping tabs open forever, though, since those were all lost.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I don't have my laptop with me when I go to work. Not having a power outlet = can't bring anything that can't plug into a 12v socket.

*looks left* *looks right* Invest in an adapter? Because there's totally power plug thingies for standard appliances for 12v sockets. Don't even remember them being very expensive. And hey, you're not the one that eventually has to replace the battery... right?

The problem is less them being expensive and more that the ones which plug into a 12v socket just aren't very good. They overheat easily, can only run for short amounts of time, don't provide all that much power (just barely enough to keep a standard laptop charged), and in worse cases can actually kill the 12v socket they are plugged into (this happened to my previous truck).

You want a reliable AC inverter, you have to get one which plugs directly into the batteries using cables. This isn't possible on this particular model of truck without a major project since the battery case is separate from the cabin.

Useful things to think about considering I've been thinking about getting into the business.
