I'm kind of suprised that the occulus rift thing isn't dominating the Sad and WTF threads too. On reddit people are acting like somebody died.

Here's the thing- OR was probably going to die anyway. It proved that VR was popular, but Microsoft, Valve, and Sony have actual experience selling game hardware.

The fact that Occulus Rift is probably going to get canceled in the next few months is just a mercy at this point.

Why do you think it's going to get canceled?

Honestly, I don't think this is particularly terrible news. They're still going to be developing it for games, but now they're just also going to put it to other uses.

Can we start calling that Oculus Rift people sellouts now?
I think we can.

Fucking sellouts.
2 billion? I don't blame them. Still sad though.
I'd sell out for 2 billion.
I'm not sure I would.

For some reason, money's never been a huge attraction for me. Yes, having money is useful, but gloating at my brother aside, sitting atop a pile of cash was never something that made me particularly happy or satisfied. Of course, enough money to live and save up and go on holidays and stuff's good, but I wouldn't know what to do with one million pounds, let alone two billion.

I would be thinking about the kinds of good things I could do with that money, especially after receiving it from people who probably weren't going to do good things with it.

Huge quantities of money does have an appeal for the kinds of things I could do with it. Mostly right now I just want to be rich because I think financial security will make me feel a lot safer about where I am...

I came here to post about the Oculus-Facebook thing, only to find myself beaten to the draw. Now I have pre-empted rage rage.

Edit: at least now Facebook will literally be on your face.

I still don't get why this oculus thing is such a big deal.

I'd just buy all the cool things I want. Then burn the rest on livestream.

Yeah, but when you are in a position where you can sell out for two billion dollars, money isn't ever going to be a concern anyways.

Honestly, that why I am RAGING about this. Yes, two billion is a ton of money, but if someone is offering to buy you out for two billion, more money is kind of superfluous by that point.

Still, it could be worse I suppose. It could have been bought by EA.

Neither do I. Its not like its cancelled or they gave it away to EA and/or Activision for several billion. That would've been obvious in its consequence.

It's a cool toy, and we're all kids at heart.

I'm not exempt, I thought it was awesome, but I didn't puff it up as the Second Cumming of Jesus or something to make it seem like anything more than just a high-tech toy.

And Facebook is where good things go to die. Or spawn horrific things, like Farmville. They're like EA, but for the Internet. Bug-ridden, horrible business practices, and ads out the wazoo RIGHT INTO YOUR EYEBALL.

Second Cumming of Jesus
Ew.
Someone probably would still call it holy if it didn't dry up.
