That's the reason I started to avoid watching dubbed movies and TV. Especially with comedy. There are a few exceptions, and sometimes the dub is so bad it's hilarious (they used to intentionally fuck around with that in some movies), but mostly you lose out on a lot if you don't get the original version.

So I bullied some people into watching Dr. Strangelove watched Dr. Strangelove with some guys. We were looking for something fun, and there was widespread acceptance for this movie.

Because of one guy we watched in German.

In English, it's the most brilliant movie ever made.

In German, it's more horrible than I can describe. It lost all appeal. They not only butchered it, but paid some cheap prostitutes to have intercourse with the remains.

The next guy to suggest watching something in German I'll nail to the door. By his nuts.

The ending of Das Boot was rather funny.  Especially the rendition of "It's a Long Way to Tipperary", showing the German triumph over the allies.
Also, watch Das Boot in German.   It's much better that way.

Nope - movie is awesome (watch it!), synchronisation was horrible.

Interesting thing about German humor: We can do jokes (rather well), satire (really well, out of political necessity), almost anything humor-related, but for all the gas in Russia we can't produce a decent comedy movie. German comedies are aweful.

I found the Great Gatsby to be a book pretending to be stimulating while it lounged around boozing, just like it's characters.
This should A. Confuse you. B. Cheer you up.

Ah, Great Gatsby. Best cure for insomnia I ever found, next to Handmaid's Tale and Chronicle of a Death Foretold.

It's mostly the Dreamlands, now that I think about it, which kinda fits.

I couldn't read LotR without falling asleep. Admittedly, it was a translation, which can often cock it all up on its own.

Not all of it, I'll give you that, but some passages, man. Some passages. Especially when he tries to write people talking. 
It's mostly the Dreamlands, now that I think about it, which kinda fits.

Fair; his dialogue wasn't always great. I never liked Kadath, personally - Lovecraft's horror style never seemed to stand up well for me in longer formats. Short stories are wonderful though.

Read it out loud to yourself! Easier to pay attention when you're doing 3 different voices all at once =P

LotR when compared, had its own theme to run though. It was better for me...
