Dear Lady Standing Next To Me, Listening To Music Really Loudly On Her Earbuds,

I can hear the music you're listening to, even though you're three feet away. For the sake of me and everyone one else, please find some better music.

Sincerely,
My Name is Immaterial.

Moan loudly. She'll be gone soon.

Tell her how great her music is, and does she mind turning it up all the way so you can hear it more clearly? Help ruin her hearing, enjoy delicious revenge served cold.

I wonder if the two civilizations were at war somehow and I, an unnoticed third participant, ended it catastrophically.

Congrats, now you don't have to moan at her. ??? That would be embarrasing.

Pretty sure I missed some points on this CS exam for writing code that does exactly what it's supposed to, in a way that was unexpected (the grader wrote a question mark and gave half credit). Since there was no specification as to how we were supposed to do it, I'm now haggling over points on an exam.[/small rage]

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Probably you were supposed to employ some specific coding technique that the class was learning. The whole point of the exercise may be to use what you learn, not to approach each problem with a unique solution.

Also possible your implementation would be laggy, or not expandable in certain ways if you decided to do that later. Or you didn't comment your stuff well enough?

Hope you get your credit, but you might catch more flies with sugar than shit - ask what your teacher thought could improve upon the work, rather than arguing right away.

It was an on-paper exam with no strategy prompt, we were explicitly told not to bother with comments, and I'm fairly confident that my version is more efficient than the only alternative I can think of, which would've involved an additional loop to fill an array followed by another loop to print the elements. I do agree with what you say, and I'm being polite about the haggling, but still, it's annoying.

The weather was nice yesterday. Today though?

Blizzard. My final class of the day was cancelled and I didn't even know until about fifteen minutes before it should have started.

The bus took over a half-hour longer than normal to arrive.

At one point I could barely see out of the cafeteria windows because of all the snow.

Yeah unless you have recurring infections where you can tell what's happening - for example I know when I'm in the early stages of possibly getting a middle ear infection, vs. swimmer's ear which I've only had once, and when it's time to go in for antibiotics. Or when a cough is probably gonna turn into bronchitis and I'm just waiting until it's bad enough that a doctor will listen to me and just prescribe antibiotics - but if it's a new thing it's hard to tell when it's bad enough. Don't wait until it's so bad you have to go to the emergency room, and if you're coughing up any significant amount of blood you should go in.

(I say significant because if you cough a lot you can irritate your internals and cough up a little strand of blood in with your mucus; coughing up spatters of blood is different and should be alarming enough to get medical attention)

So, I decided to finally get Guild Wars 2. I try to buy it through their site, but it crashes on me midway through the transaction. I never get an email, nothing shows up on my account. After a few hours I check again, and check my credit card. Nothing. So I shrug and pick it up on Amazon. Not fifteen minutes later the charge from the GW site shows up on my card and an email with the first serial code arrives.

FUCK. YOU.

Meh, time to make lemonade and burn Life's house down.

IIRC, on Amazon, you can stop an order, so long as it hasn't been dispatched yet.
Not if the only content of the purchase is a digital download.

Wuzzleface's customer service? Probably be a pain in the arse to get them to reverse it, if they will at all, but it might be worth a shot.
