Ingenuity is how you know you are learning.

No, ingenuity is how you know somebody fucked up the original plan.

I really need my own room. I'm still stuck sleeping on the couch.

It is not comfortable to sleep on, and I have to spend all my time around my mom and her boyfriend.

I can't stand that loud-mouthed idiot from a distance, and now I get to hear every ass-backwards thing he has to say up close. He also comes into the living room every morning between three and four and turns on the TV to start watching infomercials at an ungodly volume.

My mom is almost as bad, looking over my shoulder to see what I'm doing on my laptop. Sometimes even demanding I show her what I'm doing on it. If she sees me wearing headphones she demands I let her hear what I'm listening to.

Finally, no-name brands make the worst boxes. I passed by the box of garbage bags several times because the only thing on it that wasn't fine-print was the word 'VALUE!'. No pictures of a garbage bag or anything.

LOL....

The lab was the usual "Detect if starch is present by using iodine" type setup that I was already very familiar with.

Never understood this thing about Western science education. What's the point of learning to detect starch when you don't yet know what starch actually is and why it does what it does? It's just a mechanical repetition-thing, isn't it? And is there a real-life situation that requires you to identify starch anyway?
We had solutions with different ions (up to fifteen different ones on the final exam, if I remember right) and had to identify them using the reactions for different analytical groups.
I remember that I constantly forgot the reaction for Al+3 (alizarin and something. Alkali?) and got chewed out for it. But I got A's in the end.

We did that as well.

The inorganic cations we had to demonstrate tests for were silver, iron, copper, aluminum, and pals, and we had some organic ions as well, such as carbonate.

In this case, it was a prelude to discussing what a starch was, and why iodine binds to it. The lab itself was to build on previous exercises with determining the pH of a sample using a burette and calibrated solution of phenyl red. It was part of the unit on stoichiometry.

The TAs just seriously botched the concentration of the sample. :D

Looking for a trenchcoat/overcoat for a next winter. 90% is either crap made of mostly polyester or people who cannot tell the difference between a coat and a jacket.

Go with the thicker, lawyer-style looking one. I got mine a few years ago from Men's Warehouse and I love it, always get compliments on it. For some reason I've never liked the thinner style of trench coat. They always make me think of strung out businessmen.

I would actually wholly support using idiot leather. But then I would be eligible, since I screwed up the wording of that post >_<

Ah, I see, makes sense. But we were always taught that organic chemistry studies carbon compounds with the exception of CO2, CO, carbonates, and carbides. Never mind, it's not really important.
We basically just had all the cations and anions in the solubility table. It was actually pretty fun - we were handed out individual solutions and had to determine what was present. And the teacher handed distillate to people she wanted to screw with.
I remember an accident where we had to detect copper using potassium iodide - CuI is supposed to be whitish yellow, and I2 is also produced in the reaction, so the whole solution turns kinda brown. Except that the KI was swapped with I-don't-even-know-what, and the result was lime-green. The teacher asks us, like "How's it going, my pretties?" and we're like "OMG sensei CuI is such a pretty green color!" and she's like "STOP FUCKING WITH ME YOU BRATS". At which point we're all indignant and invite her to try it herself, and she contemplates whether to go berserk or stark raving mad.

From all I've read about the situation you're in, im really damn tempted to just invite you over here to switzerland. Come! I'll prepare you a bed, cheese and even chocolate! Maybe even an ungodly combination of the three! But geez man, you need to get out of there.

@OT

After having a pretty bad allergic reaction to some medicine, im finally back to work/Trade School this week. And to my horror, one of my former classmates from my first year transferred to my class again. The guy is an awful fusion of Hippie, loudmouthed Hipster and probably some demonic entity from the lesser known 10th circle of hell: "forcing your lifestyles onto others".

He spends hours on end badmouthing everything I do, and even starts arguments in class (Which our teacher gladly picks up, because he likes to promote "discussion"). The problem is, most of the stuff he bangs on about is actually pretty nice, buying fair trade products, only eating meat from animal-friendly production, yadda yadda. Its the attitude, the "Holier than thou"-shtick that gets me seething with rage. But I am seriously getting tired of repeating the same lines every time he brings it up. And hes in my class after all, so I HAVE to bear with this idiot for 2 days each week now, which drives me crazy. I was so relieved when we got seperated at the start of my second year, and now its starting all over again. It doesnt help that our teacher does not tolerate "negative attitudes", which means that I actually HAVE to argue with this dude for the 1.5 hours in that class, instead of informing him that I dont give two Cows about him and his opinion.

Today's my birthday. Not only am I annoyed at the fact tha I'm 26 now, and annoyed that I'm still too young to be annoyed about how old I am, nobody at home seems to have remembered. Worse, I shouldn't care that they haven't, partly because I'm still mad about the way they treated me when I simply asked to have my food stamps card back(and only then long enough just to put money on it, not use it).

Have really weird/violent porn on in the background of whatever you're doing and when she tells you to let her know what you're listening to, unplug your headphones and crank the volume up all the way.
I dunno, it's what I would do. :3

Can you get out and do stuff? Maybe spend time at the library / on campus / whatever? Friend's house? Coffee shop? From your posts about this topic it sounds like there's just no way you're gonna be able to stand this guy.

I've been stuck living with this guy for about 5-6 years now. I can handle it, it's just that he really gets on my nerves at times.

There isn't really anywhere I could go to hide out. Most friends and family are too far away for me to visit frequently, and are either too far from school or don't have enough space for me to couch-surf/move in. I don't particularly trust open wi-fi that you would have access to at coffee shops, and school internet is meant for school related uses only, not that people really follow those rules anyways.

We've just moved into a smaller house, and my room is in the basement, which is nowhere near finished, so I have no room. In the old house I would just hide out in my room all day.

I don't think that would go over too well. I've been told in various ways that if I were ever caught looking at anything pornographic or 'naughty' that I would get in serious shit.

I did it. I started my day at 1:30 in the morning. I drove for just over five hours straight through the darkness, braving drunk drivers, winding mountains, fog so thick you couldn't see 50 feet ahead, and the sudden realization that I was out of windshield wiper fluid just as assholes who didn't care about switching off their highbeams started crowding the oncoming lanes, throwing glare across the entire windshield. I did all of that and still made it to my delivery location with exactly 10 minutes to spare.

...AND THEN I FUCKED IT UP!

Trailer was in position, landing gear lowered. I disconnected, pulled forward, felt a brief tugging sensation which was followed by a snapping noise. Somehow, I had completely forgotten to detach my air and electrical lines, and while the electrical and emergency lines popped off the trailer on their own the service line was severed. The service line which operates the brakes on the trailer. The brakes which are KINDA REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE A TRAILER WITHOUT BRAKES IS WAY MORE LIKELY TO JACKKNIFE. And we don't carry spares for something like that, not usually. Cue an hour-long drive to the nearest truck stop with repair facilities to get the air line replaced.

Such a goddamn rookie mistake. One of those things where the instant it happens, all you can think is "how did I fuck that up?!". And I'm wondering if I can honestly blame the (quite genuine) fatigue I was and am still feeling or I simply rushed and paid the consequences. Just...ugh.

Also, and this feels quite petty in comparison, I hate the wireless network here. Paid $5 for a day's access and they have the gall to block YouTube, my imagehost, other people's imagehosts, and probably other stuff as well. Goddamn ripoff.
